A 41-year-old male was taking Tylenol (acetaminophen) over a long period of time. That individual also had a genetic deficiency, G6PD, making his red blood cells more sensitive.

Due to ongoing Tylenol use combined with this disorder, he developed methemoglobinemia— a condition that prevents hemoglobin in the red blood cells to effectively carry oxygen to the tissues.

Because of the interaction between this medication and the enzyme deficiency, healthcare professionals should carefully monitor this combination. Individuals with this condition should consult their doctor to determine whether Tylenol is safe for them and what dosage, if any, is appropriate. This case emphasizes how common medicines can become harmful health weapons.

Medication is NOT Candy 🍬💊

Children are naturally curious, and colorful pills can easily be mistaken for treats. Keep all medications stored safely, out of sight and out of reach, and never call medicine “candy” to encourage a child to take it.

A few simple precautions can prevent accidental poisoning and help keep our children safe.

💊TYLENOL - do not pack it!

Why?

Myth 🦄 or Fact ✅
Tylenol taken before drinking/partying will help to avoid a hangover.

🦄🦄🦄!MYTH!🦄🦄🦄

⛔️Not only is this a myth but it is especially dangerous to mix Tylenol and alcohol 🍸🥃🍺🍷⛔️

Tylenol’s 💊 active ingredient is acetaminophen which is processed through the liver. So is alcohol. In combination it can tax the liver to the point of liver failure 😞, even acute liver failure in certain cases. Acute live failure can require a liver transplant and can even cause death.

This is why it carries a ‘black box’ warning as required by the FDA. Or the Food and Drug Administration of the US government. These are the people tasked with keeping us safe from harm.

So, what is a black box warning? It means use of the product, in this case Tylenol, can lead to severe injury or death.

What can you do instead?
Use an electrolyte drink such as
Stay hydrated
Don’t drink in excess
Stay sober curious
