Waynesville High School students who earned a score of 3 or higher on an AP exam in spring 2026 will receive a $100 award for each qualifying score, with checks totaling $29,200 being presented to students on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026.

The Advanced Placement Achievement recognition will begin at 6:30 p.m. prior to the 7 p.m. kickoff for the first home varsity football game of the season at Tiger Stadium.

Waynesville R-VI kicked off the 2026-27 school year with Convocation on Aug. 21 at Waynesville High School, bringing district staff together for an inspiring start to a new year centered on this year’s theme: "Connection."

The theme of “Connection” wove its way through the speeches of Superintendent Hilary Bales; Maj. Gen. Christopher Beck, Commanding General of the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence (MSCoE) and Fort Leonard Wood; Teacher of the Year Niki Dailey; School Board President Layne Lercher; and Foundation President Cheryl Vernon. Keynote speaker Gerry Brooks brought his signature wit and sense of humor to the event, keeping staff laughing while delivering an important message about the power of connection. A veteran educator from Lexington, Ky., Brooks challenged staff to build strong connections that make a lasting impact on students, coworkers, families and the community.

The WHS Color Guard, WHS Cheer Squad, Rhythm Nation, WHS Tiger Pride Marching Band, WHS Choir, and cadets from the Waynesville Tiger Battalion Unarmed Exhibition Quad and Armed Exhibition Dual also participated.

Dr. Jamie Goforth, assistant superintendent of personnel services, announced new staff members and presented awards that will be published in a separate release, as will those being recognized for their milestone years of services. Foundation grant recipients also will be published in a separate release

The first day of classes in the Waynesville School District will be next Monday, Aug. 24.

OPAA! awarded Community Recognition Plaque

Aaron Harrison, assistant superintendent of operational services, presented OPAA! Food Management Inc. with the Community Recognition Plaque for August 2026 during the Waynesville R-VI Board of Education meeting on Aug. 17, 2026. OPAA! was recognized for hosting the Community For Kids event, which helped bridge the hunger gap for local students and families. The July 30 event brought the community together for a day of fun while supporting an important cause, raising approximately $5,600 to assist families who may need help covering the cost of student meals.

Waynesville R-VI School District’s school nurses came together this morning (Aug. 18, 2026) to participate in the Missouri University Simulation Lab, gaining valuable hands-on experience in preparing for a variety of medical emergencies.

Each group participated in four staged scenarios, covering critical situations including anaphylaxis, asthma, trauma and CPR/AED use.

Nurses also had the opportunity to strengthen hands-on skills through additional skill labs, including choking response and Stop the Bleed training.

"We are grateful for opportunities like this that allow our school nurses to practice, prepare and build confidence in responding to medical emergencies," said District Lead Nurse Michelle Mulligan. "Their dedication to keeping our students safe and healthy is truly appreciated!"
