Waynesville R-VI 4th, 5th and 6th graders who qualified in the mile at their individual schools participated in Stampede in the Park on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, in the Waynesville City Park. The Waynesville High School Cross Country Team assisted with the event by leading each race to ensure the students stayed on the course.

Raiders finish 4th at Smith-Cotton



The Waynesville JRTOC Male Raider Team finished 4th overall in a field of 20 teams in the Smith-Cotton Raider Meet in Sedalia, Mo., on Oct 7, 2026.



Waynesville’s individual event results included the following:



4th Place Physical Team Team (PTT)

4th Place Gauntlet

5th Place 5k Run

6th Place Cross Country Litter Rescue (CCLR)

7th Place 1 Rope Bridge



Trevor Skyles and Inez Casto competed as the Ultimate Raiders.

The team will compete next at Army Raider Nationals at Fort Knox, Ky., on Oct. 22-24, 2026.

WHS marching band takes 3rd place

The Waynesville High School Tiger Pride Marching Band took 3rd place overall and received the Outstanding Winds (music) Award on Oct. 3, 2026, at the Valhalla Marching Band Festival, hosted by Parkview High School in Springfield, Mo.

“This (Outstanding Winds Award) is given to the band with the highest music score from all the bands in finals,” said Jared Sabatasso, director of bands for the Waynesville R-VI School District. “This is a huge achievement for Waynesville!”

In addition, during prelims, the WHS band took 3rd place in Class D, the Outstanding Drum Major Award and the People’s Choice Award.

“Our band put on a great show this past weekend,” Sabatasso said.

The band will compete in the Branson Marching Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 10.

Preschool screenings to be held Oct. 13

Preschool screenings will be held at Williams Early Childhood Center on Oct. 13, 2026, for preschool children ages 3, 4 and 5 (not in kindergarten) who live in the Waynesville R-VI School District.

Appointments available at 8:30, 9:30, 10:30, 12:30, 1:30, and 2:30. The child must turn age 3 by Aug. 1, 2026, to be screened. Please call 573-842-2650 to schedule your child’s screening at Williams Early Childhood Center, 12225 Pulaski Avenue, Fort Leonard Wood.

Williams preschool program consists of PACE and ECSE. Both are free for Waynesville R-VI residents who are admitted to the program. A student may be selected to attend either a morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) session.

The Waynesville JROTC Mixed Team took 5th place and the all-male team took 8th place in the Waynesville JROTC Raider Meet on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026. The Waynesville JROTC Battalion hosted the Waynesville/Fort Leonard Wood 11th annual Raider Challenge in conjunction with the 31st Engineer Battalion, 1st Engineer Brigade and the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence.

Sheehan named Vernon Homecoming Player of the Game

The 9th Annual Rick Vernon Homecoming Player of the Game Award went to senior Jackson Sheehan for his efforts during the varsity Homecoming football game on Oct. 2, 2026. This tradition pays tribute to Vernon, who served as the Tiger head football coach for 33 seasons.
