This Friday, almost everyone at VOC got a chance to go to the NC Mountain State Fair! And it was amazing! All the clients and chaperones had the best time riding rides (big and small), eat good food, watch farm animals, and visit exhibition and vendor halls. And to never lose sight of each other, we wore our pink Qualla Boundary Special Olympics shirts! We’re looking forward to next year! NC Mountain State Fair

DSP RECOGNITION WEEK HAS ENTERED THE CHAT!

You know you’re a DSP when…

☕ Your coffee gets cold because someone needs you.

🚗 “It’s just a quick community outing” somehow turns into a full-day adventure.

😂 You laugh at things that would make absolutely NO sense to anyone outside of VOC.

🧠 You have 17 things going on at once and somehow remember everyone’s schedule.

🙌 You celebrate a tiny accomplishment like your favorite team just won the championship.

🧹 You can turn cleaning, cooking, shopping, or running errands into a LIFE SKILLS lesson.

💙 And somewhere along the way, the people you support become part of your everyday life.

Being a DSP means showing up with patience, flexibility, creativity, and a LOT of heart. It means celebrating independence, encouraging new skills, creating opportunities, making memories, and sometimes just rolling with whatever the day decides to throw at you. 😅

To our VOC DSPs: YOU ROCK! 🎉

Thank you for all the things you do that make a difference, including the things nobody sees, the things that weren’t on the schedule, and the things you probably never thought would be part of your job description. 😂

We appreciate you, we’re grateful for you, and VOC wouldn’t be VOC without you!

Happy DSP Recognition Week! 🥳

Community Activities Program at VOC, Vocational Opportunities of Cherokee, Inc, and Cherokee Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation Services were honored to be vendors during this year’s Darkness into Hope Event. As we promote meaningful day activities through community inclusion and competitive integrated employment, we have made sure to include the most important people - our clients. They did a phenomenal job talking about what we’re all about, signing the raffle tickets, and building new connections . Chris even had his own table where he talked about EBCI Public Health & Human Services Division Inclusive Borrow Box!
