Big shoutout to our substitute automotive teacher, Sherry Walker Heard, and educational assistant, Kristen Edwards, for taking our WCTC students on an interesting field trip to RaeKar today!

A huge thank you to Jake Littrell of RaeKar for hosting us and giving such a great demonstration of the machines that keep the operation running. Our students learned so much seeing the industry in action!

Wayne County Technology Center is excited that in August, 2026, we will be offering classes in the criminal justice program of study, and we are proud to announce that beginning this program with us is Misty Kelley Gatlin, who will be our criminal justice instructor. Misty is a native Wayne Countian and joins us with over 19 years of service to the state of Tennessee, including five years with the Department of Corrections. She is a proud 1991 Wayne County High School graduate who later returned to further her education at Columbia State Community College and Middle TN State University - milestones that reflect her determination and commitment to personal growth.

Misty is married to Paul Gatlin, and together they have built a large and loving family. She is a proud mother to two children, Kelley Shepherd and Tristen Haggard, and a stepmother to Jody Taylor, Jessica Hammack, Branston Moore, and Gracie Moore. Her greatest joy comes from being a grandmother to her thirteen wonderful grandchildren, who bring so much happiness and purpose to her life.

Outside of work, Misty enjoys thrifting, gardening, and most of all, spending quality time with her grandchildren. Misty states, “my faith is an important part of who I am, and I am a member of Millrock Free Will Baptist Church.
My life has been built on perseverance, love, and faith, and I continue to embrace each day with gratitude for the journey and the people who make it meaningful.”

WCTC is proud to announce that beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, Mr. Rod Littrell will join us as our new automotive instructor.

Rod brings with him 36 years of experience as a diesel mechanic. He has spent 33 years with the same company, where he advanced from mechanic to lead mechanic, then to parts manager, and currently serves as shop foreman. Rod says that if it has wheels and an engine, he has worked on it. He also holds an Industrial Maintenance degree from TCAT Hohenwald. We are excited to offer our students the benefit of his extensive knowledge and hands-on experience.

A lifelong Wayne Countian, Rod graduated from Wayne County High School in 1989. He has been married to his wife, Jill, for nearly 36 years, and together they have two children: a son, Jacob (married to Megan Littrell), and a daughter, Carlie. Rod and Jill are proud grandparents to their granddaughter, Addison.

Rod has also served as minister of the North Highland Church of Christ for 25 years. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, gardening, and letting Addi tell him what they are going to do!

Doug Sanders recently rolled into WCTC with something truly special—his beautifully restored 1966 Ford truck—which quickly became the center of attention for our automotive students (and quite a few of our impressed faculty members, too).

This isn’t just any classic truck. It’s a piece of Wayne County history. Doug’s granddad bought it brand new from Barnett Motors, and it has since been passed down and carefully preserved with pride and dedication. Seeing it up close was truly like stepping back in time and seeing a representation of quality and commitment to excellence.

Doug spent the day generously sharing his knowledge, answering questions, and connecting with students—not just about the truck, but about careers, the world of work, and the importance of strong employability skills.

Experiences like these help bring learning to life, and we’re grateful for community members like Doug who invest time and sharing of wisdom in our students.

A big thank you to Braden Canterbury for investing his time in our WCTC students! On Wednesday, Braden brought his truck and spent the day sharing his knowledge and experience in diesel mechanics.

Our students had the opportunity to ask questions, learn about career pathways, and get a firsthand look at this industry. We appreciate Braden taking the time to inspire and connect with the next generation of skilled professionals!

Happy Administrative Assistant’s Day to Dusty who keeps us on track at WCTC. She’s the first one at school almost every day, won’t use her vacation days (even though I remind her to - but not too many because it would make it so hard on the rest of us), and attends to the million details that help keep us going. Thank you for all you do!
