Congrats TJ!

Toliver Jordan (TJ) Hutchinson graduated from WHS in 1970. He developed a passion for football from a young age, excelling in p*e wee and junior high leagues. In addition to football, he competed in multiple sports, including basketball, baseball, and track & field. His achievements are notable: he was an All District Football player for two years, earned All District and All Tournament honors in basketball for two years, and was recognized as an All District Baseball player. He was also named the Best All-Around Athlete as well as 1st team for DFW All Metro. TJ was awarded a full football scholarship to Southern Methodist University, though his promising career was unfortunately cut short by injury.
Known for his class in every situation, he was a devoted family man who made a significant impact on those around him. His passing in 2022 left behind cherished memories for his loved ones. He treated everyone with respect and genuine friendship, embodying unconditional love for his wife Elvia, his daughters, Kimberly and Shaniqua, his grandchildren Kemahr, Korneilus and Kourtney & his brother Jimmy, as well as a vast circle of friends.

Scott Phillips built a remarkable coaching career at Waxahachie High School, where he served from 1990 to 1993. During his tenure, he led the team to the state finals multiple times throughout the 1990s and celebrated a state championship victory in 1992 with an outstanding 16-0 record. His educational background includes graduating from high school in Junction in 1970, followed by earning a degree from Southwest Texas State College in 1975 and a Masters from Lamar University in 1984. Scottβs remarkable contributions to the sport were honored with his induction into the Texas Hall of Fame in 2019. Prior to his tenure in Waxahachie, he secured a state championship in Groveton with another impressive undefeated record of 16-0. Just a few years after departing from the Indians, he gained notoriety for his leadership during what is celebrated as the greatest comeback in high school football history. If youβre unfamiliar with the 1994 semifinals featuring Plano East and John Tyler, treat yourself to a viewing of Coach Phillips and his team as they score 27 unanswered points in the final two minutes of the game. Itβs no surprise that he is often regarded as the greatest of all time in Waxahachie football, renowned for his unwavering consistency, positivity, and profound knowledge of the game.
