Little Go-Hawk Learning Center

It's been a busy week at Little Go-Hawk Preschool!
We had Waverly Health Center and Waverly Police Department, Iowa visit us to talk about how they help our community and keep us safe.

We are thankful for all of the community helpers that live and work in our community!

We had a BIG red visitor today! Thank you to Waverly Fire / Rescue for coming today and bringing a truck for the kids to see and touch. The kids got to hear what a smoke detector sounds like, what the firefighters gear looks like, and they got to see the inside of the truck. We are thankful for these volunteers that help keep our community safe!

Last week, Mrs. Harrington's class dressed up for Week of the Young Child. Here's a peek at some of the fun they had!

Music Monday – The children dressed up as musicians and explored rhythm, volume, and tempo using drums, egg shakers, clapping hands, and patting their legs.

Tasty Tuesday – The children wore clothing with food and explored painting with different foods and their unique textures.

Work Together Wednesday – The children dressed as community helpers or what they want to be when they grow up and worked together to build a bridge their animals could cross.

Artsy Thursday – The children wore their favorite colors and explored mixing primary colors to create secondary colors while making their own individual art pieces.

Family Friday – The children dressed in pajamas and shared what they enjoy doing with their families.

We had the honor of welcoming Mayor Kristin Happel , Little GoHawks, and a few students from Wartburg College to our center to sign a proclamation for Week of the Young Child! This meaningful moment highlights the importance of early childhood education and the role it plays in shaping bright futures for our children and community.

Thank you, Mayor Happel, Little Go-Hawks and Wartburg, for taking the time to celebrate our students, families, and staff. We are proud to be part of a community that values and supports our youngest members.

Bremer County Conservation brought in some squirmy, wormy, worms this week to teach our Little Go Hawks all about vermicompost!! 🪱

✨⭐The latest teacher to be recognized as KWAY's Teacher of the Week is Jessica Harrington, Preschool Teacher at the Little Go-Hawk Learning Center!⭐✨

Jessica Harrington is being celebrated for her genuine love for her students and for making the very first years of school a joyful, inclusive experience.

Jess received numerous nominations, including one from a classroom associate who asked the students what they loved most about "Mrs. Harrington." Their answers say it all:

⭐one student loves that Mrs. Harrington "dances,"
⭐another loves Mrs. Harrington's "question of the day,"
⭐and another student even joked that she calls him "SpongeBob!"

Beyond the fun and games, Jess is recognized by her colleagues for her deep commitment to accessibility. Having served as a paraprofessional before becoming a teacher, she truly understands how to meet every student where they are and treats her entire classroom team as valued partners.

As one nominator put it: “She has a genuine, warm love for everyone... the kids love her, and she makes working every day a blast!”

By creating a classroom where every child feels seen and celebrated, Jess ensures that our youngest Go-Hawks truly Belong.
