Food for thought 🧐

Would you rather your child be disappointed for two weeks… or an entire season?

One of the hardest parts of coaching is telling an athlete they’re not quite ready to move up.

But here’s the question I always ask myself:
Would I rather they be disappointed for a couple of weeks… or spend an entire season feeling stressed, frustrated, overwhelmed, and disappointed?

When athletes move up before they’re truly ready, that disappointment often lasts for months.

When they repeat a level, the disappointment is usually short-lived IF they have parents who support the process. Then their confidence grows, they find success, build stronger fundamentals, and are much better prepared for the next level.

I’ve had so many athletes come back years later and say, “I was so mad I had to repeat… but now I’m so glad I did.”

Sometimes the kindest coaching decision isn’t the easiest one. It’s the one that gives an athlete the best chance to succeed—not just this season, but for years to come. ❤️🖤
