Our students performed in Roslindale alongside this weekend. We’re so proud of them and their growth over the years. They embody the true meaning of kung fu by showing up, putting in the effort, and doing the work 💪

They’re just getting started and we can’t wait to see how far they go!

Zong He Quan (宗鶴拳, Ancestral Crane) primarily centers on two expressions of power: Shaking and Whipping. Rather than muscular tension, the power often comes through relaxation, staying rooted in the legs, loose through the spine, and released outward like a whip.

Shan He (扇鶴, Fanning Crane) is a fundamental White Crane sequence. Short by design, it allows practitioners to focus on staying soft and relaxed while manifesting power outward. Here’s Coach Jon performing it in Indianapolis at the beginning of the month.

In Chinese martial arts, we talk about the saber, spear, sword, and staff: 刀槍劍棍. Four different weapons and four different energies.

The staff (棍, gùn) is considered the foundation of all weapon training. It teaches distance, timing, connection, and structure without the danger of an edge. It’s said that after one becomes proficient in the staff, every other weapon opens up more easily.

Here’s AC (aged 9) demonstrating Qi Mei Gun (齊眉棍), our fundamental White Crane staff sequence.
