Endya was a bright light in this world. I looked up to her as a board member and loved her as a friend. My heart is with her beautiful children, husband, and loved ones.
It is with heavy hearts that we reflect on the passing of board member Endya Johnson and her dedication to our district. Endya joined the Waterloo Community School District board in 2017, most recently serving as vice president.
Endya was incredibly thoughtful and led with kindness and grace. She was a fierce advocate for our schools and always prioritized equity among students and staff.
“Endya had a huge positive impact on our district,” stated Dr. Jared Smith, WCSD superintendent. “She had such thoughtful feedback and advice and always put students first. She will be greatly missed.”
“Endya brought a diverse skill-set to the board table. She was insightful, reflective and aware. She made us all better by asking questions, sharing her perspective, and advocating for all students and staff,” said Sue Flynn, WCSD Board President. “Besides her board duties she was a great co-worker, mom, wife, friend, and community supporter. Her absence is profound.”
