Baby animals are already the cutest thing imaginable, but today, after weeks of sitting and loving attention, this mama duck hatched out, a chick!!! So now with our little duckling Uno, our adorable goslings, a giant pile of little chicks, and the baby goats, the farm is too cute for words. And even cuter with little kids! Fall programming starts next week, and we have opportunities for kiddos of all ages to experience the magic of the farm. The website, Wade creek farm.com, has all the information and registration details for Little Chicks on the Farm for kids 0-6, Wednesday After School Programs, and Tuesday homeschool programs!

We finally managed to harvest some hazelnuts before the jays and squirrels got them all. I had been finding hazelnuts in the woods, and then last weekend watched two jays pick nut after nut off the tree. It’s a little too early to harvest, but hopefully they will dry well and we can roast them soon!

Check out how completely obsessed our Border Collie Jesse has become with Uno, our one duckling. Uno is now convinced he and the goslings are siblings, and all 3 of them follow me around the farm with Jesse 100% zoned in on Uno the whole time! It’s hilarious, but also, now if I need to go somewhere on the farm without Uno, Kermit, and Fozzie I have to sneak away or they will come running after me!

Ok friends, this is why you never let children look into the tanks at the farm store! But, after our ducks sat on a nest for weeks and only hatched out one duckling, named Uno of course, I decided I would try to see if the mama ducks would be interested in adopting these ridiculously adorable goslings. (I am terrible at saying no to sweet children begging for baby animals.)
So here they are, Kermit Rainbow and Fozzie Sparkles!

What an awesome week we had of kids just getting to be kids! Our Farm Art Camp project was making mobiles out of natural materials, and campers worked all week on creating and finding tony treasures to hang from their mobiles. We felted llama wool from the farm, searched for feathers, played in the creek, made paper from plants on the farm, and still had lots of time to snuggle newborn chicks and baby goats. I love seeing the immense creativity and happiness that comes from letting kiddos learn and play on the farm!
I still have plenty of space in our Wednesday Afterschool Program if you have or know a kiddo who would love being on the farm!

I love art camp! Today’s project was making paper with natural materials. We gathered rose petals, mint, yarrow, lavender and more, and the kids made gorgeous paper that we will use as part of our mobiles…of course with lots of breaks to check on the newly hatched chicks!

After spending months fighting the blackberries as they try to eclipse the farm, it is so nice to take a few weeks to just enjoy them! Everything on the farm has grown so well this year, we are going to be making pots and pots of jam this year!

We have another Sound Bath on the farm on August 15th from 10 am to noon! I first met Hiroko in 2017 when she brought a group of Japanese women to the farm for a retreat, and since then she has played such an instrumental part of bringing joy, healing, and harmony to the so many people and animals on the farm!
This is such a wonderful experience if you’re able to join. You can register on our website, wadecreekfarm.com.

It is such a joy watching kids connect with the animals here at Wade Creek Farm. It is so obvious that we humans are meant to be surrounded by animals! We start every camp day with “chores,” where we visit and feed all the animals, and this past week of Fox Walking camp the campers just fell in love with the llamas, goats, sheep, chickens, piglets, dogs, and cats.
