Is it new? Is it possible? Is it impactful? These are the questions Alán Aspuru-Guzik, Ph.D., asks in the pursuit of scientific discovery, which he likens to hacking his way through a jungle with a machete. He pushes the boundaries of knowledge, driven by his dedication to lifelong learning — a dedication that has led him across disciplines.

Aspuru-Guzik is a Professor of Chemistry and Computer Science at the University of Toronto, where he explores the ways that quantum computing and machine learning can accelerate progress toward new, futuristic materials.

ACS turns 150 this year? This video is part of a yearlong series shaped by the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) enduring core values — passion for science, inclusion and belonging, lifelong learning, and sustainability — featuring ACS members from around the world.
