Professionally curiosity, West Coast Edition 🌴

Rewind back to our 2025 Fall Trip where our scholars got to organize, plan, and experience the breadth of businesses found in sunny Los Angeles, CA! Known as the entertainment hub of America, these scholars go to visit companies the likes of Universal, Netflix, and Disney.

Apart from media, the Bakers got to know more about food service from , consulting at and sports with the NFL and the LA Galaxy. Finally, we all got a reminder of why we are Baker Scholars by spending ample time at local schools like Libertas College Prep and the renown nonprofit, Homeboy Industries. A special thanks to our Fall Trip committee for make those days extra special!

Food, Fellowship, and Purpose ☝🏽

About two weeks ago, our Baker Difference Committee Event hosted the last service event of Fall semester! In this event our scholars helped the wonderful people at DC Central Kitchen prep food for the meals that would be served to various community members in the DMV!

DC Central Kitchen is a non-profit organization that uses food as a tool to strengthen bodies; empower minds, and build up our district! During this visit, our scholars had the pleasure of assisting their chefs as they got ready to cook off all these vegetables into meals!

“Investing in leaders who invest in others”

Earlier in September, our Baker Scholars embarked on their annual Fall Retreat where reconnected with their Trustee Mentors, recharged alongside the beautiful VA countryside and reflected on their commitments as students, scholars, and broader community members. 🏕️

This was a wonderful weekend spent together and the perfect way to start the new school year!

Last semester, our Baker Scholars partnered with the local nonprofit to make a difference in D.C!
DC Central Kitchen (DCCK) is a nonprofit and social enterprise that combats hunger and poverty through job training and job creation. The organization provides hands-on culinary job training for individuals facing high barriers to employment while creating living wage jobs and bringing nutritious, dignified food where it is most needed. The Baker Scholars helped cut up and prepare ingredients for the chefs during our volunteer shift.
