It was founded as a response to a need for an organization of highly motivated and college trained Black men, which could address the problems of the Black Community. 118 Years of Legacy. 118 Years of Service.
Today, the Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Beta Chapter commemorate our Charter Day, celebrating 118 years since our founding at Howard University. During the Christmas holidays, Jewel Eugene Kinckle Jones assisted by Jewel Nathaniel Allison Murray made BETA Chapter at Howard University. Correspondence had developed between Jewel Eugene Kinckle Jones and Big Brother Alphonso Payton Cook, which led to the stop over at Washington on the way to Richmond. Eighteen men, constituting BETA Chapter, were made at Howard University on Friday, December 20th, 1907
