DC Budget Updates: Some good news! But we aren't done yet 06/25/2025

DC Council Committee of the Whole has publicized the changes they are making to the proposed budget. We see some excellent proposed changes including reductions in funding for standardized tests, and allocated money for restarting the green card program. Markup is tomorrow. We'd like to hear your thoughts and make sure Council Members know what you support!

Educators Taking Action will lead the WTU SY25-28 06/20/2025

We are so greatful and humbled by the outpouring of support and excitement after our decisive victory on Tuesday. This campaign has been a testament to the power of our members stepping up to be the union they want to see and we are just getting started.

As we get to work to create a smooth transition, we will be continuing to use our campaign website and this page to provide updates on what we are doing. We look forward to working with all our fellow WTU members to build a more transparent, democratic, organized and action oriented union.

Educators Taking Action will lead the WTU SY25-28 On Tuesday, June 17th the WTU Elections Committee announced the unofficial results of the Washington Teachers Union (WTU) Election: the full Educators Taking Action (ETA) slate won leadership of the WTU for SY25-28. Thank you so much to all the WTU Members who stepped up and ran, who volunteered, who talked to their colleagues, who came out to a listening session, who read our endless emails, who took our survey 👀 and who VOTED. Together through the democratic process we are building a stronger union. We look forward to working with you all, no matter the outcome.

Area Vice Presidents are in the WTU Bylaws with specific duties, that rarely are allowed to get filled by sitting Presidents. The Educators Taking Action Slate is committed to following the WTU bylaws and building our leadership pipeline by supporting these elected leaders in running their committees, staying in touch directly with their members and attending DCPS Central Office meetings that involve their areas.
