An after-school film and discussion series for middle and high school students who attend Columbia H Snacks are provided for participants. These events are free!

The CHEC International Film Festival is a space for viewing and discussing foreign films and movies with multicultural themes. Any student attending Columbia Heights Educational Campus (CHEC) is invited to participate. Movies are shown on Fridays after school, from 3:20-5:00 pm.

Welcome back to the CHEC International Film Festival! Join us this Friday October 3rd in the Model UN room at 3:30 pm to kick off our first film of the year and meet your new Fellows team! This week, we will be screening "The Graduates/Los Graduados," a bilingual series that dives into the lives of 6 Latino/Latina high school students as they express pressing issues they experience in today's education system. Bring your appetites and great discussion!

Please join us for the last screening of the year this Friday at 3:20PM. "Who Cares?" is a film shot in 20 different locations in a short span of just 40 days, the film highlights the lives of people all around who are changing the world through social entrepreneurship. From a Canadian educator teaching empathy to children to a Brazilian priest who became a banker, the theme is clear: everyone can change the world. Should be very interesting!

Please join us tomorrow (Friday, April 4th) for the showing of Bride and Prejudice in the model UN room at 3:30PM. This film is a Bollywood-style update of Jane Austen's classic tale, in which Mrs. Bakshi is eager to find suitable husbands for her four unmarried daughters. When the rich single gentlemen Balraj and Darcy come to visit, the Bakshis have high hopes, though circumstance and boorish opinions threaten to get in the way of romance...

Please join us this Friday (March 21st) for the showing of "14 women" in the model UN room at 3:30PM. This film focuses on several female Senators at the 109th United States Congress and features interviews with several people, including the Senators' family members, Delaware Senator Joe Biden, and singer Alanis Morissette.

Please join us tmr for the showing of "It's a Girl" in the model UN room at 3:30PM. This documentary explores the issue of “gendercide” (mainly in China and India) and asks why so little is being done to save girls and women. The film tells the stories of abandoned and trafficked girls, of women who suffer extreme dowry-related violence, of brave mothers fighting to save their daughters’ lives, and of other mothers who would kill for a son.
