The Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf is an association of schools and educational programs involved with the education of deaf and hard of hearing individuals. CEASD provides an opportunity for professional educators to work together for the improvement of schools and educational programs for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.

On Monday, November 11, 2024, Heather Laine, Superintendent of the Oklahoma School for the Deaf, shared valuable insights with CEASD Leadership Academy’s Cohort 8 on the power of developing a strong network. Superintendent Laine emphasized how a supportive network allows school leaders to learn from each other, tackle challenges together, and leverage each other’s strengths. As a graduate of Cohort 5, she brought unique perspective and experience, enriching the mentees’ journey.

On Monday, November 11, 2024, Claire Bugen, Interim Executive Director of CEASD, led Cohort 8 through an engaging “Six Thinking Hats” workshop. Mentees explored Edward de Bono’s powerful technique, which uses six colored hats to represent different modes of thinking. This approach promotes well-rounded decision-making and problem-solving by encouraging diverse perspectives. A fantastic tool for our future leaders!

On Monday, November 11, 2024, Cohort 8 kicked off at the stunning and serene Camp Isola Bella in Salisbury, CT. President-Elect John A. Serrano, Superintendent of the Maryland School for the Deaf, warmly welcomed the mentees, sharing insights on “Why We Are Here.” His address emphasized the academy’s goals, the importance of strong mentor-mentee relationships, and an overview of the journey ahead. Looking forward to an incredible year of growth and leadership!
