The Alpha Chapter of the Delta Epsilon Sorority, Gallaudet University's first Greek-letter sorority, came into being on April 24, 1953. It was founded by four young women:
Eloise Bolen ('55, West Virgina), who also served as the first president
Elizabeth Ann Lister ('55, Canada)
Joan Macaluso ('55, Louisiana)
Gloria Wojick ('56, Connecticut)
