วันก่อนได้คุยกับพี่คนหนึ่ง เค้าบอกอยากพูดภาษาอังกฤษเก่ง ประโยคที่ตามมาคือแต่พี่ไม่เก่งแกรมม่าเลย ผมเลยบอกไปว่าแค่คิดก็ผิดแล้ว ถ้ามัวแต่มานั่งรอเก่งแกรมม่าชาตินี้ก็ไม่ต้องพูดแล้ว สิ่งแรกเลยคือทำลายกำแพงความเชื่อผิดๆ ที่ต้องนั่นโน่นนี่ ข้ออ้างทั้งนั้น ฝึกกับเจ้าของภาษางั้นนี้ มายอช ไปไล่ตามจับฝรั่งแถวสีลม how are you? Where are you from? ผมเป็นฝรั่งก็เผ่นละเสียเวลาตรูจะมาเที่ยว สิ่งแรกคือ เปล่งเสียงออกมา สำเนียงจะป่วยแค่ไหน จะผิดบ้างยังไงก็ขอให้พูดออกมาก่อน ให้เกิดความชินคุ้นปากก่อน ความอายเขินจะลดน้อยลง การโต้ตอบเรื่อยๆ จะเกิดการเรียนรู้ สงสัย และ ค้นหา แต่มาก็จะจำได้ว่าเราควรจะแก้ เพิ่ม หรือ น่าจะใช้อันนี้หรือพูดตอบอย่างนี่ดีกว่า อย่าลืม จุดประสงค์ของการสื่อสารคือ ให้ผู้สนทนาเกิดความเข้าใจซึ่งกันและกัน ผมเริ่มจากการพูดกับรูปภาพ กระจก และตัวเอง เลียนแบบสำเนียงโดยการพูดตาม ทีวี หนัง ที่ดูนี่แหละ ทำซ้ำๆไปให้เกิดความเคยชิน เมื่อเป็นเรื่องที่เคยชิน ความเขินอายจะลดลงเองคับ อีกอย่างไม่เก่งภาษาอังกฤษ ไม่ได้แสดงว่าเราเป็นคนโง่ แต่เป็นการขาดทักษะและการฝึกฝนเท่านั้นเอง ใครว่าโง่ด่ากลับเลย Hey! You better bite your tongue! I don't speak English well. That doesn't mean I am stupid you're dumb ass! You're stupid saying s**t like that!
