NEWS: Iraq Security and Regional Stability. Regarding violence in April-May.
Last month was one of the most violent on record in Iraq, coming on the heels of terrible bloodshed in April. In all, nearly 2,000 people have lost their lives in sectarian, ethnic, and political violence in the past 60 days. Extreme violence in Syria has spilled over into that country's neighbors. Though the uptick of violence has been most notable in Iraq, other states in the region have seen incidents triggered by the sectarian violence in Syria. Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey have all recorded attacks or cross-border violence triggered by the Syrian civil war.
