Digital devices are now more than ever being incorporated into education. 💻

Many students have taken to electronic forms of note-taking, but could the traditional way of pen and paper be more beneficial for studying?

Let’s have a look 👀

There are many pros to digital note-taking. Typing is faster than hand-writing and having lecture slides saved right on your device will mean you won’t have to copy everything and be able to browse through them whenever you wish.

Let’s not forget that you can have backups of all your notes that can be easily shared and make collaboration much faster.

However, typing has been found to yield a much lower retention rate than actually taking the time to handwrite important information.

With pen and paper, you also have the freedom and flexibility to easily draw or map out your notes without restrictions on the page.

Plus, there are no distractions compared to the digital environment of laptops and mobiles.

What type of note-taker are you? 🧐

Here’s how finding a great study buddy can help you score higher on exams 📈

Having a person with whom you communicate well and can stay focused around can be extremely beneficial for both of you.

If you’re studying the same material, you can pool your resources, learn new study methods, and quiz or teach each other concepts that you don’t understand.

It’s also a great way to motivate and push one another towards your goals and to stay true to your study schedule.

Do you have a study buddy already? Have you found it to be helpful?

Anxious for the big test day coming up?

Here are some ideas on how you can help alleviate your test anxiety 👇

✔️ Lots and lots of practice tests in similar testing conditions

✔️ Remind yourself that this exam does not define you as a person, nor will it define your application (Applications are more than tests. Plus, you can retake tests, without penalty!)

✔️ Keep track and manage your caffeine intake, since it can induce anxiety

✔️ Get adequate sleep during the days leading up to your exam, and eat food that’ll help you concentrate (and not get too sleepy)

The best way to beat stress is having the confidence that comes with smart, holistic preparation.

Happy testing everybody!

YOU are the most important part of your MBA application 👏🏼

Business schools need more than just a pretty score and stellar transcripts when selecting applicants: they need to know the story behind tangibles.

This means that through your personal statements, interview, and letters of recommendation, you’ll need to demonstrate that you are more than qualified to be admitted – and a real person others would want to be around!

Telling your story can be cathartic, because it takes introspection and patience. 🕒

Sherpa Prep course students are eligible to enter our admissions program, where they can receive guidance on the unknowns of admissions – including honest feedback on your “pitch” and choice of recommenders, an expert essay editing, i.e., what are you saying? and how gracefully are you communicating it? 📝

We’ll do anything to help you reach your goals!

Here is what NOT to do during the GMAT or GRE 👇

❌ Mismanaging the clock

These are adaptive exams that will present opportunities for you to lose your way. You have to manage the ENTIRE test and not just the question in front of you.

❌ Leaving unanswered questions

Yes, there is a penalty for not completing all sections of the test, which will decrease your score significantly.

❌ Doubting yourself

If you have trained earnestly and with the right curriculum, and if your practice scores are where you want them to be, take a deep breath and trust your training. You have evidence to buoy your spirits.

The biggest difference to keep in mind when preparing to apply for your MBA is the difference between the two main tests.

While the GRE is accepted as part of the admission for various graduate programs, the GMAT is used specifically for business schools.

Both tests are computer-adaptive and have various sections. The GMAT will suit those with more quantitative and analytical skills since it doesn’t allow calculators during the math section, while testers who excel in reading comprehension and who have rich vocabularies may prefer the GRE.

That said, if you are applying to selective business schools and do not have much quant in your college transcript, or if your grades in those classes could've been better, the GMAT may be the better choice to prove your readiness for business school coursework in finance, accounting, marketing, and logistics.

A practice test of each is the starting point to determine which exam may suit you best. Then, let's have a conversation!
