Jim's Prostate Cancer Story 02/13/2026

In recognition of Black History Month, we are honoring Black Pennsylvanians touched by cancer. We know that while cancer does not discriminate, there is a disproportionate impact on Black and African American individuals. In fact, the incidence rate of prostate cancer is almost 70% higher in Black men than in white men. That is why we are working to pass a bill that will ensure that high-risk individuals – including Black and African American men – can access prostate cancer screenings, without cost barriers.

One of our key partners in this fight, the Pennsylvania Prostate Cancer Coalition, was founded by Colonel Jim Williams, a 34-year prostate cancer survivor. He credits early detection to his survivorship and since his own cancer journey, he has been doing what he can to break down barriers for all men. Take a look at Jim’s story below and let us know if you have a personal connection to prostate cancer.

This is moment to celebrate!! 🎉

Moments ago, Congress passed the most impactful cancer-fighting bill in years. It happened thanks to cancer advocates like you who refused to back down!

Together, you sent more than 120,000 messages, made phone calls, and took to social media to urge lawmakers to reject cuts and invest in cancer research. They heard you, and they did.

Your advocacy made a difference: This bill becoming law means more people can be screened for cancer earlier, get treatment sooner, and have a better chance to survive and thrive.

Thank you for everything you do. ❤️
