Hoya Alumni,
Four months ago The Hoya Alumni Association came into being. Since then, we've recruited 41 members, sponsored cadets for their Military Ball, presented an award at the 2012 Commissioning Ceremony, and interacted with current cadets and fellow alumni. I was surprised at how easy it was, and how much interest is out there both from the alumni perspective as well as the current crop of cadets. The incoming PMS and cadre are fully supportive
and looking forward to working with us.
Over the summer we will have a meeting to discuss the Association's future. Phase one of informing the community and generating interest was, in my eyes, a great success. Phase two, establishing the organization, looks to be just as smooth. Fund raising, bank accounts, legal concerns, and professional networking tools will be the big topics. On top of that we
will lay out a rough year-long calendar of alumni events we would like host and ROTC events we would like to be included in. We hope that all DC, MD, VA locals will attend the meeting, and those that are outside of the area will provide their input. Phase 2 will require that we have a legal advisor, treasurer, and preferably a more capable web master than myself. Please give it some
thought, the commitment is not consuming, but the value is immeasurable.
As I have mentioned before, we will close down the page and replace it with the Facebook group; I think it fosters better communication. We still have 23 folks that liked the page who have not transitioned over to the group. If you are "friends" with them (or other Alumni) please drag them over. If you are having trouble joining the group, please send me a note.
Lastly, I was thinking over Memorial Day Weekend that our Alumni Association Award at the end of year should commemorate a fallen Hoya Battalion Alumni. If anyone would like to volunteer to do the research and propose names, please let me know.
thank you for your efforts in this Association!
Marc
