Hoya Alumni,
Four months ago The Hoya Alumni Association came into being. Since then, we've recruited 41 members, sponsored cadets for their Military Ball, presented an award at the 2012 Commissioning Ceremony, and interacted with current cadets and fellow alumni. I was surprised at how easy it was, and how much interest is out there both from the alumni perspective as well as the current crop of cadets. The incoming PMS and cadre are fully supportive
and looking forward to working with us.
Over the summer we will have a meeting to discuss the Association's future. Phase one of informing the community and generating interest was, in my eyes, a great success. Phase two, establishing the organization, looks to be just as smooth. Fund raising, bank accounts, legal concerns, and professional networking tools will be the big topics. On top of that we
will lay out a rough year-long calendar of alumni events we would like host and ROTC events we would like to be included in. We hope that all DC, MD, VA locals will attend the meeting, and those that are outside of the area will provide their input. Phase 2 will require that we have a legal advisor, treasurer, and preferably a more capable web master than myself. Please give it some
thought, the commitment is not consuming, but the value is immeasurable.
As I have mentioned before, we will close down the page and replace it with the Facebook group; I think it fosters better communication. We still have 23 folks that liked the page who have not transitioned over to the group. If you are "friends" with them (or other Alumni) please drag them over. If you are having trouble joining the group, please send me a note.
Lastly, I was thinking over Memorial Day Weekend that our Alumni Association Award at the end of year should commemorate a fallen Hoya Battalion Alumni. If anyone would like to volunteer to do the research and propose names, please let me know.
thank you for your efforts in this Association!
Marc

A great group of alumni came out to support the Army's newest officers
All, I just created a Group called Hoya Battalion Alumni Association which will replace this page once all 33 people monitoring this site have migrated over. The Group will be a better venue to view other members, send correspondence, and post information. Please let me know if you have any trouble finding or joining the group.
thanks
Marc
Ok, I think we may have found a webmaster, but until he gets up on board --- I think instead of a page, I should have created a group. So I just created a group Hoya Battalion Alumni Association on my personal page which means only those I'm friends with can be part. Does anyone out there know how to create a group that others can join and not have to become friends with the originator? I am part of one group where I had to "request to join" -- I can't seem to figure out how to do that though. Any help would be appreciated.

the 2012 commissioning will be this Friday, 18 May, at 0730 in Gaston Hall. The speaker will be former FBI director Louis Freeh. Come on out and support the brand new crop of 2LTs!
All,
I just sent out the three nominations for the Alumni Association award via email. If you did not receive the email it means I don't have a good address for you. Please update either myself or Ryan Rooks with the corrected info. Thanks!

(Just sent this via email to those that have updated the Membership Roster)
I wanted to formally thank you for joining the Hoya Battalion Alumni Association. Communications are still intermittent, but I thought a running start was the way to go --- we can adjust on the fly. Right now our top priority is establishing a good contact roster for everyone. Currently, we are split between Facebook and email, and I'm not sure if we're effectively communicating yet. Our goal is to have one email distribution list to push information from. I acknowledge that FB is a passive medium and if you don't check postings regularly, you may miss important information.
Ryan Rooks is our membership chair and he maintains the roster. Please ensure to update your status as you PCS/ETS/etc... You can contact him directly or through the admin email [email protected]. Please also indicate if you are in the DC area and would like to participate in local events.
For those that don't subscribe to Facebook or haven't checked the site lately, a couple of upcoming events:
1. Hoya Battalion Military Ball is 27 April and I am working with the battalion to secure alumni seats. Please let me know if you are interested, I don't yet have a price per ticket but will send a follow-up note with that information. We were also asked to sponsor a cadet (and/or date) if able.
2. The Alumni Association will present an award at the commissioning ceremony on 18 May. If you have any suggestions as to the type of award you would like to see us present, please let me know.
3. For those in the DC area, I am throwing a promotion party at Sine Irish Pub located on Pentagon Row, 4 May from 5:30-7:30 pm. All are welcome to come!
Again, thanks for joining, and thanks for bearing with us as we work out the kinks. We're still looking for a webmaster and a couple other key positions. If you're interested please let me know.
Respectfully,
Marc Cloutier
