As Halloween Approaches here are a few safety tips to be mindful while celebrating this year.
- Earlier the Better, trick or treating should happen right after school and over before 7p.
- Always check and inspect candy and treat before consuming, check for broken packaging (Don’t consume)
- Be mindful of large groups in costumes (Better safe than sorry)👩🏾🔬
I suggest experimenting with all the candy🧪 Like candy structures challenges or color challenges
👩🏾🔬Notice how one candy color breaks into several different pigments — for example, a green candy might separate into blue and yellow

👩🏽🔬For the past decade, Jasmine Byrd has been a trailblazer in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), advocacy, and community leadership. As the founder of DC Makerspace, she has dedicated her life to ensuring that young Black girls see themselves as innovators, creators, and future leaders in STEM fields.
Jasmine doesn’t just teach—she empowers. She lets the girls wear her lab coat, showing them that they, too, belong in spaces where discoveries happen. She leads Makerspace stations where young minds can build, experiment, and dream without limits. Her work is a testament to why representation matters.
In a world where Black women make up less than 3% of the STEM workforce, Jasmine’s mission is clear: to make sure young Black girls know they are seen, valued, and capable of changing the world.
Her motivation? The sparkle in a little girl’s eyes when she realizes she belongs in the lab, at the table, and in the future of innovation.
Join us in celebrating 10 years of Jasmine’s impact and in continuing the fight for more Black girls in STEM! Drop a ❤️ in the comments if you believe representation matters.
