Occupational Health Internship Program (OHIP) The Occupational Health Internship Program (OHIP)

The Occupational Health Internship Program (OHIP) is summer internship program to help medical, nursing, public health, and other students learn more about the field of occupational safety and health from those with the most at stake: working people. We are committed to recruiting, training, mentoring, and inspiring a new generation of occupational safety and health professionals to prevent job injury and disease through a partnership with workers. OHIP is a national program housed within the Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics (AOEC), with training centers in San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, Los Angeles and New York City. Since its founding in 1987, the Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics (AOEC) has grown to a network of more than 60 clinics and more than 250 individuals committed to improving the practice of occupational and environmental medicine through information sharing and collaborative research.

We’re just so excited that we can’t stop saying it!
Welcome, OHIP Cohort 2026, to the OHIP family!
As we celebrate 23 years of OHIP, we’re thrilled to welcome 24 incredible interns who will spend the next nine weeks partnering with worker organizations across the country to advance occupational safety and health.

A huge thank you to all of our amazing partners for making this program possible. We are especially grateful to the UCLA LOSH team for hosting such an inspiring orientation and helping us give our interns a warm and memorable start to the summer.
We can’t wait to see everything this talented cohort will learn, accomplish, and contribute in the weeks ahead. Here's to a summer of learning, collaboration, and making a meaningful impact for workers and communities! 💪✨

Congrats to Jimena Rodriguez-Gamez and Santiago Fuentes who have both been accepted into the UC Berkeley Public Health, MPH Environmental Health Sciences program! Both Jimena and Santiago joined us last summer as part of the Occupational Health Internship Program (OHIP). OHIP interns learn about the field of occupational safety and health from those with most at stake: working people. Jimena and Santiago partnered with Laborers’ International Union, Local 67 and the , among others, and their achievements remind us how critical this program is to building the pipeline of leaders in occupational health & safety that we need in this moment. 🎉

OHIP 2026 project sites include Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Durham (NC), Minneapolis, the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Boston.
