🐻🗳️ 𝐀 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 🗳️🐻

It's that time of year again — when we, as a community of critical thinkers, feel obligated to remind everyone about the sacred civic duty of voting.

We are, of course, talking about Fat Bear Week.

Every fall, Katmai National Park invites the public to weigh in (pun very much intended) on which of Alaska's brown bears has best embodied the spirit of pure, unrestrained salmon consumption. It is democracy at its finest: no debates, no attack ads, just several tons of bear doing what bears do best — getting enormous before winter.

We understand that emotions can run high when discussing divisive topics like this. Bear 128 "Grazer" supporters and Bear 151 "Walker" loyalists have been known to unfriend each other over less. So we ask that everyone please vote with civility, respect their neighbor's ballot, and remember: no matter which bear you choose, we can all agree the real winner is salmon abundance and a healthy ecosystem.

Get out there, do your research (the livestream footage counts as due diligence), and vote responsibly.

You may have already done the hard part.

Scores from certain tests you took in school, college, the military, or elsewhere could qualify you for Mensa membership. This September, we’ll review your prior test scores for FREE. American Mensa accepts about 150 different tests, so there’s a good chance you’ve already taken one that qualifies!

Metro. Washington Mensa (MWM) is thrilled to announce that we've won the Diamond Award — the top honor in American Mensa's Jewel Awards program!

Each year, American Mensa recognizes its strongest local chapters through the Jewel Awards, honoring groups that are well-run and make the most of all that Mensa has to offer — engaging members through a full calendar of events, activities, and community — in ways that positively impact members' experience. The Diamond Award goes to the single best-performing chapter in each size class, and as the largest local group in American Mensa, MWM earned this honor for Class I (chapters with more than 1,100 members).

We’ll have sessions on:
-Understanding twice-exceptional (2e) learners
-Becoming your child’s best advocate at school and beyond
-Navigating social challenges from both the parent and child perspective

There will be opportunities for parents to connect, kids to feel seen, and families to leave with practical tools and language you can use right away.
