Today, we honor the Indigenous Peoples whose histories, cultures, wisdom, and resilience have shaped this land for generations, long before it was called America.

But recognition must go beyond celebration. It requires us to confront the enduring legacies of colonization, displacement, cultural erasure, and systemic injustice while acknowledging the sovereignty, contributions, and continued struggles of Indigenous communities.

At Courageous Conversation®, we believe that racial equity begins with truth. That means listening to Indigenous voices, challenging the narratives that have silenced them, and creating space for honest dialogue that leads to meaningful action.

Indigenous Peoples are not merely part of America’s past. They are an essential part of its present and future.

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, let us move beyond acknowledgment toward accountability, solidarity, and justice.

Today, we celebrate 100 years of courage, conviction, and an extraordinary commitment to freedom.

Happy 100th birthday to Ms. Opal Lee—the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” whose life reminds us that history does not move toward justice on its own. People move it.

At 89 years old, Ms. Lee began the symbolic 1,400-mile journey from Fort Worth, Texas, to Washington, D.C., advocating for Juneteenth to become a federal holiday. Years of organizing, educating, and refusing to let America forget eventually helped turn that vision into reality when Juneteenth National Independence Day was signed into law in 2021.

But Ms. Lee’s legacy is greater than a holiday. It is proof of what becomes possible when we confront the truth of our history and remain courageous enough to imagine something better.

For a century, she has witnessed America wrestle with race, freedom, memory, and belonging—and she has never stopped pushing it toward the promise it has yet to fully keep.

Today, Courageous Conversation honors a living piece of American history and a woman who helped change it.

Happy 100th Birthday, Ms. Opal Lee. May we honor your century of courage by continuing the work. ❤️
