Students can experience a “summer slide,” where test scores often flatten or decline over the summer months, especially in math, where declines tend to be larger than in reading. 📉

That’s why summer programs, libraries, community spaces, and after-school activities matter so much. Learning keeps going long after the school year ends. ☀️

Whether it’s reading programs, STEM activities, arts initiatives, or simply having a safe place to learn and create, these experiences help students stay connected and keep momentum going into the next school year.

Summer learning doesn’t have to feel like school to make a difference. Sometimes it looks like building something, exploring a new hobby, or discovering a new passion alongside friends.

That’s what all in on learning looks like. ☀️

🎉 500 student homes powered.

What started as an idea has become a movement powered by partnership, determination, and a shared belief that every student deserves the opportunity to learn, no matter where they live.

Over the last five years, Skip the Grid has helped bring reliable electricity to families across Navajo Nation—creating access to light, power, connectivity, and opportunity.

Together, we've:
⚡ Powered 500 student homes
📚 Delivered more than 12,000 education packs
❄️ Distributed nearly 300 refrigeration units

This milestone belongs to every partner, volunteer, donor, community member, and family who helped make it possible.

But we're not stopping here.

While we celebrate the first 500 homes, thousands of families across Navajo Nation still live without reliable electricity.

The first 500 proved what's possible. Now let's power the next 500. 💙

We’re heading into a major milestone, our 500th student home solar installation!

This week represents teamwork, planning, partnership, and purpose as we continue expanding energy access for families. Every system installed is more than equipment, it’s stability. It’s light. It’s the ability for students to study after dark, for families to power essentials, and for homes to feel safer and more connected.

Reliable energy supports learning at home. It supports daily routines. It supports opportunity.

We’re proud of the partners and volunteers helping make this milestone possible, and we’re just getting started.

Stay tuned as we work toward 500 homes powered and counting!

Baltimore showed up in a big way. 🐦💜

On June 3, we partnered with the Baltimore Ravens and the Ravens Foundation to transform the Virginia Baker Recreation Center and officially launch the new Catalyst Center at Patterson Park.

Together with 200+ volunteers, we brought new energy, color, and purpose to a space that will now support hands-on STEAM learning, robotics, coding, environmental science, early childhood programming, and outdoor nature-based education.

From refreshed indoor learning areas to updated technology, flexible furniture, garden spaces, and outdoor improvements, every detail reflected a shared commitment to Baltimore’s youth.

What made the day even more powerful was seeing the transformation happen in real time, neighbors, partners, city leaders, and volunteers working side by side.

This project was about more than a renovation. It was about expanding opportunity, strengthening community spaces, and investing in the next generation.

We’re grateful to the Ravens Foundation, the City of Baltimore, and everyone who helped make this milestone possible.

Baltimore, thank you for being part of it. 💜

June is Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈

Every student deserves to walk into a space where they feel welcomed, respected, and comfortable being themselves.

The environments around students matter. When young people feel seen and supported, they’re more likely to participate, connect, explore new interests, and grow with confidence.

This month, we’re celebrating the importance of spaces that make room for everyone. 💙

What can a little light change?

For nearly 500 student homes across Navajo Nation, it has meant the chance to read after sunset, finish homework at home, and gather with family in a brighter, safer space.

But the need is still urgent. Around 13,000 homes across Navajo Nation lack reliable electricity.

As we approach our 500th home installation, we're celebrating what's possible when people come together and looking ahead to the families still waiting.

That's why we're raising funds to help power 10 more student homes.

Every light installed starts with a student home in need. Every donation helps bring power, opportunity, and hope.

Join us in lighting the way forward.

June is here ☀️

And learning? It’s not taking the summer off.

From summer programs to community spaces to after-school activities, this is the season where students keep exploring, creating, building, reading, moving, and discovering new interests.

Some kids are coding. Some are making art. Some are finding their confidence in spaces that simply give them room to try something new.

That’s what this month is about: keeping curiosity alive all summer long. 💙

Here’s to a season full of learning, laughter, creativity, and maybe a little less “I’m bored” energy. 😄
