Come hear stories from women’s Blues and about The Blueswomen Project, a collective that is preparing the first performance of Beauty and the Blues.
Singer, Storyteller, scholar, and Spoken Word Artist Karen Wilson Ama-Echefu, PhD will speak with Violetta Diamond on Sophie's Parlor on WPFW 89.3 FM @ 4:15 pm (EST) Wednesday, May 22nd. Karen and Violetta will talk about Women's Blues - Serious, funny, and in-your-face - and about the solid-standing, straight-talking, deeply loving women who write, sing, play, or live them. And they'll be talking about the blueswomen project, a creative collective of primarily African American sisters, poets, singers, instrumentalists, writers, dancers, spoken word artists, philosophers, and photographers who are giving expression to the trials and triumphs of poor and working-class women of color, primarily African American, thru the multiple lenses (Civic, social, sacred, sexy, and sweet) of their beautiful Blues. Come shake a tail-feather with us at the premiere performance of The Blueswomen Project: Beauty & the Blues on October 5th, 2019 at St. Stephen & the Incarnation Episcopal Church, 1525 Newton Street NW, Washington, DC 20010.
