As I'm sure you've seen by now, the rain, rain would NOT go away and come again another day...smh. We tried to hold out hoping for a change in the forecast. Well it did change, but unfortunately it changed for the worse. The last I checked, there was nearly a 80% chance of rain on Saturday and for that reason, we're moving to the rain date of May 25th at 12 noon. Please spread the word to your network that the 1st Annual Douglass Family Reunion will NOT be this weekend, but we WILL be there next Saturday, 5/25 at noon! We'll see you then!

After many meetings and discussions on the how and the when, on behalf of the FDHS Alumni Association - Upper Marlboro, it's with great pleasure to post this message. The 1st Annual Douglass Family Reunion is set for Saturday, May 18th from 12pm-4pm. We will have a live DJ, Alumni vendor tables, car show and a few more surprises that you'll have to be there to enjoy. Remember to set a reminder on your phone. Feel free to share it on your social media, and be sure to send it to an Eagle you know!

We will have vendor tables available for Alumni, Alumni spouses and/or Alumni children who have a business and would like to sell their product and/or services. There are a limited number of tables available. Please register your business by Friday April 19th at 7pm.

We've been working on a few separate things that all seemed to have lined up perfectly for the 1st Annual Douglass Family Reunion. Although we have been able to trace education for black students in & near Upper Marlboro back to the 1800's, the timeline that is widely accepted has our school beginning in1923. That makes this 2023/2024 school year OUR 100th YEAR! That needs to be celebrated and we plan to do just that on Saturday, May 18th at the 1st Annual Douglass Family Reunion. Again, save the date in your phone and we look forward to seeing you and Eagles from all classes at the 1st Annual Douglass Family Reunion on Saturday, May 18th from 12pm-4pm!!!

Our hearts are heavy as we come together to remember our dear friend, Jeff Wyvill. It is with great sadness that we share news of his sudden passing. Jeff was a true legend among our alumni, and his impact on our lives is immeasurable. While my words can only scratch the surface of his extraordinary accomplishments, I hope to capture a glimpse of the incredible person he was.

Jeff's generosity knew no bounds, and he was a friend to each and every one of us. Many of us remember him as the retired captain of the renowned "Fireboat John Glen" in the Washington DC Fire Department, a role he held with honor since 1994. He dedicated his time and skills to serving our community, earning him a place of high regard as the President and Life Member of the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department. In 1981, Jeff received the highest honor when he was inducted into the prestigious PGCVFRA Firefighters Hall of Fame.

Beyond his firefighting career, Jeff was a successful entrepreneur. He owned and operated Wyvill's Catering, and was a valued partner of Ledo's Pizza and Pasta on Main Street in Upper Marlboro since 1990. Many of us fondly remember his ownership of Wyvill's Tavern Bar and Grill from 1994 to 2005, where countless memories were made. Jeff's commitment to our community extended beyond his businesses, as he served as the Vice President of the Rose Haven Civic Association and was an active member of the Lions Club in Upper Marlboro.

Jeff's dedication to service and leadership continued in various organizations. He held the position of Past Junior Governor of Chesapeake Beach Maryland, and was a valued member of the Order of the Moose in Upper Marlboro. His involvement in these groups showcased his unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
