The world our young people are inheriting looks very different from the one previous generations knew.

Technology has changed. Work has changed. How we communicate, learn and create has changed.

But some things transcend generations.

The desire to be heard.
The desire to learn.
The desire to contribute.
The desire to build a meaningful life.
The hope of leaving the world better than we found it.

On International Youth Day 2026, the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations” reminds us that while generations may experience the world differently, our aspirations can connect us.

For more than two decades, YTF has believed that young people should not simply inherit the future — they should have the skills, confidence and opportunity to help create it.

And those of us who came before them have a role too: to listen, to share what we have learned, to open doors — and to remain open to what the next generation can teach us.

Different generations bring different experiences.

Different contexts create different perspectives.

But our shared aspirations give us common ground.

Today, we celebrate the young people who are imagining what comes next — and every generation willing to help them build it.

Literacy is a fundamental human right. ✏️

This year, International Literacy Day highlights literacy in the digital era, enabling people to access, understand, evaluate, create, communicate and engage with digital content in a safe, inclusive and appropriate way.

We’re celebrating the power of digital literacy — the ability to access, understand, create, and engage with technology in meaningful and safe ways.

We equip youth — especially girls — with the digital skills they need to thrive in school, in work, and in life. Because when young people are digitally literate, they don’t just keep up — they lead.

Enabling the shift toward technology skills will require public-private collaboration to ensure that schools have both the infrastructure to enable digital learning and the job market insight into the technology skills that will be most relevant to employment in the future.

We listen to the bold ideas of young people. They know their challenges and they have the solutions. Our role is to listen and walk with them as they co-create change in their communities.
