The founder of Universal Explorers, Mele Melton, has always had a passion for studying different cultures around the world. Coming to America just at the age of 13 years old, Mrs. Melton realized that she could not ignore her love for diverse art, languages, geography, and customs. Melton joined multicultural groups and even helped organize a multicultural showcase. After a successful career in finance, Ms. Melton wanted to follow her passion of global education so she formed the Culturfied Foundation, dedicated to increasing cultural awareness and giving DC-area students a chance to be exposed to other world cultures in a positive and life-enhancing way. Culturfied Foundation made culture boxes in partnership with embassies and global educators to distribute to program participants who demonstrated excellence. These culture kits became popular amongst students, parents and teachers resulting in higher demand than supplies. Universal Explorers was born to fill this gap and make the joy of learning about new countries to more kids.
