Buzzi’s Stockertown plant in Pennsylvania found an innovative way to turn locally grown switchgrass into a practical alternative fuel for cement production. By partnering with local agriculture and a green fuels vendor to harvest, bale, and process the biomass, the plant made an idea once considered too costly a viable solution.
The approach reduced switchgrass processing costs by 82% and increased the biomass share of alternative fuels by 26%.
The project also helped lower the plant’s carbon footprint, enabling Stockertown to beat its internal CO₂ roadmap target.

ACA has recently published a Cementitious Materials PCR, which brings together all cementitious materials under a single Product Category Rule. This effort better aligns the rules for slag cement, coal ash, natural pozzolans, and other supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) with those for cement. This update also improves reporting for blended cements, which often incorporate SCMs. The Cementitious Materials PCR supersedes the Cement PCR, which was published in 2025.
