“Good evening from New York” was how our evening news would play in the back ground during dinner nightly. TV coverage of the in 1968 fundamentally shifted American public opinion and transformed the conflict into the nation’s first true “living room war”. On February 27, 1968, CBS Evening News anchor Walter Cronkite—widely regarded as the most trusted man in America—anchored a special report called “Report from Vietnam”. Images such as this video were a nightly routine. Playing out in full color the highs and lows of a war lasting from roughly 1960 through 1975 where Americans followed in the French footsteps and missteps in IndoChina. Books like “Street Without Joy” were ignored by our military with terrible consequences. We always seem trapped into fighting the last war.

“Hiding in plain sight has become an imperative on the modern battlefield,” Lt. Gen. James P. Isenhower, the commanding general of CAC. Further - “We think very differently about how we employ ourselves [and] how we remain dispersed” compared to operations in and , he explained, pointing, in particular, to the size of command posts. “We have to work really hard to look like that which we are not.”

For those of us involved in protecting Service Men and Woman with our tools related to Organization Clothing and Individual Equipment , that means how do protect our military at the individual, ground level? The area we are focused on is defeating multispectral Sensors.  Modern battlefields rely on thermal imaging (MWIR/LWIR), short-wave infrared (SWIR), radar (micorwave), and computer vision algorithms (such as AI-enabled drone targeting) rather than visual sight alone.

Whether its Multispectral Camouflage, Advanced Netting Systems or Electromagnetic Deception; this is our focus. To find out more, please get in touch.

What does casualty evac look like when you don’t control the air? The US Military is planning to not be able to guarantee air superiority so that Golden Hour US Forces has controlled since the Korean War may no longer be viable. Instead autonomous vehicles may be used to fill the gap as demonstrated here in Extraordinary footage reportedly shows a wounded soldier from Ukraine’s 66th Mechanized Brigade protecting an unconscious comrade during evacuation by an unmanned ground vehicle. Despite lacking specialized counter drone equipment, he engages the incoming threat with his r***e and shoots down 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 advancing Russian FPV drones.

The episode also illustrates how profoundly casualty evacuation has changed. The 66th Brigade has increasingly employed UGVs to move wounded personnel through areas where conventional evacuation vehicles and their crews face extreme risk from Russian drones.

Technology gets the casualty out of the kill zone. But when technology alone is not enough, individual skill, discipline, and courage still matter. One wounded Ukrainian soldier protecting another while fighting off FPVs is a remarkable example. Learning lessons from the battlefield is critical.

Continuing to talk about the importance of to operations and personal protective. Last week the subject was airborne school - this week it’s Air Assault School which involves combat rappelling (from 34-foot towers and hovering UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters), sling-load operations, and physical readiness. Graduates earn the coveted Air Assault Badge.

So what’s the textile connection? To start - Rappelling Soldiers use 11mm (7/16-inch) static or dynamic Kernmantle Ropes tied with a provisional harness (like a Swiss seat) to descend safely from a hovering aircraft (such as a UH-60 Blackhawk) to the LZ (landing zone). Then there is Fast-Roping down a Thick, specialized 1.75- to 2-inch diameter untwisted nylon or manila ropes which allow squads to slide down rapidly without a harness in 30 to 60 seconds, maximizing speed and surprise.

The Army Airborne School builds confidence because it forces soldiers to overcome the primal fear of jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.
Overcoming Fear
• Facing heights: Soldiers jump from a 34-foot tower, 250 -tower (featured here) and an aircraft at 1,200 feet (C-130 or C-141)
• Controlled panic: Training teaches soldiers to trust their equipment and training instead of panic.
• Mental toughness: Pushing past the instinct of self-preservation builds a strong mindset.

The Voice of the Customer (VOC) is critical because it connects what a company can make with what customers actually need, value, understand, and are willing to buy.

VOC is critical in new-product development. We have to Identify a real customer problem and not bring to market something just because we can make it.

Customers often describe what they think they want rather than the underlying problem. VOC research helps uncover the performance requirements —the need the product must solve.

Example: A customer may say, “We need an extreme cold weather jacket that can be worn in tactical situations and not just another big puffy jacket.” The deeper requirement may actually be reducing soldier load by reducing the number of layers required, improved durability over the existing product, camouflage performance, and protection.
