A new plan in Canada will allocate an additional $500 million to expand the country's official bilingualism program. The additional funds would be added to the $2.2 billion in funds already appropriated for the program.
The United States must take steps to prevent this type of government spending on multilingual services. This can be accomplished with the passage of H.R. 997, the English Language Unity Act.

"At a time when parents are paying additional fees for school bus, lunch and sports programs, at face value, the effort seems to be a costly, logistics nightmare. Will teaching in languages other than English segregate our schools by driving English-speaking students to Charter or Private schools? Might the result be an even more precarious Public School system by creating groups of students who will favor those who they can communicate within their own language and distance themselves from everyone else?"
Bilingualism equips students with an exceptional skill, that is why the U.S. government requires public school students to participate in foreign language courses.
If English speaking students are being required to study a foreign language for success, why would non-English speaking students not be required to do the same?

For many years, the US Federal Government has enforced English language tests for immigrants to become citizens of the country. So, why is the Federal Government continuing to provide services in multiple languages if legal citizens already passed an English proficiency test?
