While h**p is approved as feed for laying hens, it took many years of research and regulatory hurdles to get there. Sadly, most animals are still waiting. When ingredient rules were created in 1958, h**p was banned—meaning it wasn’t grandfathered in. That’s why we’re pushing for an exemption for companion animals to open markets while the required studies continue for livestock.

Policy. Support. Representation.
The National H**p Association is proud to co-found the HEMI Working Group—a strategic alliance uniting national leaders in fiber and grain h**p. By coordinating across our strengths, we’re helping create the foundation for a globally competitive American h**p industry that serves farmers, processors, and consumers alike. Together with HEMI, HFC, and USHBA, we are amplifying our impact across policy, education, feed, and construction.

H**p builds resilience from the ground up.
With deep roots that reduce erosion, improve water retention, and break up compacted soil, h**p enhances the health and productivity of farmland. By boosting organic matter and supporting microbial life, it’s a smart addition to regenerative crop rotations.

H**p doesn’t just grow—it heals.
With the ability to extract heavy metals and toxins from soil, industrial h**p offers a natural, cost-effective solution for remediating contaminated sites. Over 1,300 Superfund locations across the U.S. could benefit from this powerful plant.

A recent Congressional Research Service (CRS) report highlights language from the House Appropriations Committee that, for the first time, defines industrial h**p as distinct from cannabinoid h**p — a meaningful win for the fiber and grain sectors.
But not all the news is as good. The report also notes the shift toward a total THC standard, which could increase compliance risks for farmers and undermine progress.

H**p grows fast. But the real challenge? Building markets and infrastructure that can keep up.
In just 100 days, h**p can become fiber, grain, oil, feed, bioplastics, textiles, building materials — and more. But without investment in processing, farmers are left without buyers and potential stays untapped.
We don’t have time to waste. Let’s match the speed of this crop with bold action — in policy, innovation, and market development.
