The Hoya Battalion proudly recognized Mr. Darryl E. Christmon — Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of Georgetown University’s Main Campus — for nearly 30 years of unwavering support to our Cadets and Cadre.
As Vice President of Operations and COO, Mr. Christmon has been a steadfast advocate for military leadership development at Georgetown, helping create an environment where future Army leaders can thrive. His behind-the-scenes dedication has left a lasting impact on generations of Hoya Cadets.
Army fun fact: The Army equivalent of Mr. Christmon’s role would be the Deputy Commanding General of Operations (DCG-O).
In appreciation of his decades-long commitment, the Hoya Battalion presented Mr. Christmon with a handcrafted wooden flag bearing our Battalion crest — a small token of our immense gratitude.
Thank you, Mr. Christmon, for your enduring partnership, leadership, and loyalty to the Hoya Battalion and the U.S. Army ROTC mission. Hoya Saxa General!

The Hoya Battalion wrapped up the 2025 academic year with our Dining Out—a night of tradition, camaraderie, and celebration. Cadets, their dates, and friends of the program came together for an unforgettable evening as we honored our graduating seniors, recognize our top cadets, send off MSG Mike Snyder to the Sergeant Majors Academy and bid farewell to our Professor of Military Science, LTC Cameron Maples , after three years serving as Department Chair
We were honored to welcome COL(R) Tim Chafos—a proud Hoya Battalion alum—as our guest speaker. His message centered on loyalty—to each other, the mission, and the Army values that shape us all.
Thank you to , , , , and for your unwavering support. One team, five schools, and countless memories. Hoya Battalion—always ready, always loyal.

“The Crucible” at the Hoya Battalion is the final Field Training Exercise where MS4s and MS3s do battle. Our MS3 Cadets headed to this summer were immersed in a tactical environment running continuous operations against a high trained enemy force (Class of 2025). The Class of 2026 completed multiple engagements, casualty drills, ambushed a supply convoy and finally seized their objective. All Seniors were eliminated in the jungles of Quantico. Oh, and one BIG change this year…we did it all with paintball. Suddenly, Cover and Concealment was important.
Well done to the victors, Class of 2026. And job well done to our Seniors for training them so well.
More videos and pictures coming.

That’s a wrap! The cadets of the Hoya Battalion ended the last physical training session of the semester with a Battalion run on the Mall. Cadets ran from the Lincoln Memorial down to the Capitol and back, ending with a silent march by the Vietnam Memorial. The Cadets did an outstanding job this year and now it’s time for Army Schools like Air Assault for our Sophomores , Advanced Summer Training at Fort Knox for our Juniors and Commisioning into the Army as Second Lieutenants for our Seniors.
Time to insert an overused song about summer break and get some rest.

Hoya Battalion: A Legacy of Service 🇺🇸
Since 1789, Georgetown University has been a pillar of education—and from the very beginning, Hoyas have answered the call to serve. Georgetown cadets have fought in every major conflict since the War of 1812, even finding themselves on both sides during the Civil War.
The first Georgetown student, who eventually served in Congress, was also the first Georgetown College cadet in 1791. For more than 230 years, this battalion commissioned more than 5,000 officers, including a former Chief of Staff Army (GEN George Casey). Over that time, commissioned officers from the Hoya Battalion commanded soldiers at every level in every major campaign and conflict fought by the United States.
In the 20th century, Georgetown Army ROTC expanded its reach, welcoming cadets from Catholic University of America, American University, The Institute of World Politics, and George Washington University, shaping leaders in military, diplomacy, and global affairs.
These images—from the late 1800s to today—capture a proud tradition of service, sacrifice, and leadership.
From history to the future, the Hoya Battalion continues to lead.
