The National Labor College Legacy
National Labor College (NLC) is keeping its goals and its spirit alive by designing “Legacy Sites” for its courses and programs. A Legacy Site is a college or university that shares its purpose to offer high quality education designed by and for members of the labor movement, based on the values that underpin the labor movement. These values include equal access to high quality education at all levels so that working people may fully realize their potential and education for the advancement of a free and democratic society.
National Labor College Legacy Sites:
Empire State College of the State University of New York (www.esc.edu)
The Joseph S. Murphy Institute for Worker Education and Labor Studies of the City University of New York (www.sps.cuny.edu/academics/jsmi)
Pennsylvania State University, the School of Human Resources and Employment Relations (www.lser.la.psu.edu)
The School for Workers at the University of Wisconsin Extension (www.schoolforworkers.uwex.edu)
All of these fine institutions offer high quality labor programs taught by world class faculty. National Labor College is sharing with these legacy institutions all of its courses and programs. The Board of Trustees of National Labor College recommends these institutions to all members of the labor movement as places where they may find some NLC courses and programs as well as other high quality labor education offerings, in the spirit of National Labor College.

YIKES! Only about half of the graduates from the teach-out have opened the email where we give you the information about the Commencement Weekend. WE are resending the email now, so please open it if you are interested in attending the event. After December 11, we will really not be able to assist you, since this is the deadline for ordering your cap and gown.
PLANNING THE COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
An important part of each National Labor College commencement ceremony is an address by one of the graduates, who speaks for the class. Each year, the graduates select their speaker from among those who have expressed interest and proposed the theme that they would like to develop in their remarks. Within the week, we will send out a questionnaire asking for nominations and self-nominations to speak on behalf of the class. Watch for the mail. Once we have identified a group of candidates, you will all have a chance to vote via email.
If anyone has questions about the commencement logistics, you can email [email protected] and we will respond.
Congratulations to our new graduates from Summer, 2015. Great work and wonderful commitment. So far, 90 students have graduated during the teach-out.

Spring has sprung! Time to Register for Summer! Stay on track to finish your degree!
Teach-out students take note. . . while you are finishing up your spring courses, do not forget to register for the summer semester so that you can be sure you will complete your degrees by December. Remember, there are no extensions!!
Students at Empire State should register early for summer classes to be sure that there are enough students in the courses that you need. This is especially true for those who plan to take your capstone course this summer. Jeff Bria and I have been working with Empire State to assure that everyone who needs a capstone will have the opportunity to take the course, but we need you to register NOW!
At Empire State, Summer registration lasts until May 8, with classes beginning on May 18. Do yourself a favor a register NOW!
