A new issue of the Journal of Illiberalism Studies is out now! This issue is focused on Christian nationalism and the 2024 election and features contributions from speakers at our conference organized with School of Media & Public Affairs (SMPA) at The George Washington University The Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies and Georgetown University Center on Faith + Justice

Marlene Laruelle and Steven Livingston open this issue by addressing the 2024 US elections and a potential turn in the growing embrace of Christian nationalism.

Next, Robert P. Jones of PRRI on public survey data showing support among Americans for Christian nationalism, , and political violence.

Using 2021 General Social Survey data, Samuel L. Perry shows that religious commitment and Christian nationalism are strong predictors of interpreting group criticisms as personal attacks.

Andrew Ifedaro Thompson on how racial status threat is materializing and motivating extreme views across the country, and on empirically validating how White Christian nationalism can drive extremism and increased democratic erosion.

Next, Andrew Whitehead on Christian nationalism, how it is strongly correlated with the desire for a traditionalist social hierarchy, and how they are both strongly correlated to support for .

Followed by Jasmine Carrera Smith on voting trends among Americans based on race and gender and potential demographic shifts in recent American elections

Stella Rouse (ASU Hispanic Research Center) then adds a contribution on American Latino’s support for the Republican Party and voting for

Followed by Michael Minkenberg on how radical right parties in different countries have integrated Christian identity into their agendas in different ways.

Jeta Abazi then uses two national figures, Saint Mother Teresa and Skandeberg to highlight the struggle of differentiating the boundary between the secular and the religious.

Next, André Gagné on the changing role of Neocharismatic-Pentecostals within American politics, focusing on their involvement in Spiritual Warfare during and after ’s presidency.

Katherine Stewart on Christian nationalism as a key feature of the anti-democratic coalition, and as one that has always been a top-down movement, driven by a leadership cadre that has transformed Christian nationalism into an anti-democratic, pro-oligarchic force

Andre Pagliarini rounds us out with a piece on the role of religion in the changing political environment of focusing on the 2022 presidential contest between Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Jair .

Lastly, Marlene Laruelle on mapping the framing of American Christian Nationalism onto and the paradoxical mirror games between the the two countries.
