Theatre 202 is thrilled to announce auditions for DREAMING WITHOUT LIMITS, a social justice-focused cabaret celebrating the roles young artists dream of playing and the world they imagine for themselves and their communities.

Through musical theatre, contemporary music, and original work, performers will perform songs from dream roles, tell stories that reflect who they are, and imagine bold possibilities for a more just and joyful future. This cabaret centers youth voice, representation, and the power of dreaming—onstage and beyond. Solos, duets, and group numbers are all possible, including some with choreography, some singing-only, and some spoken word.

AUDITION: Tuesday, April 21st, 4:00-7:00 pm, at Cardozo Education Campus (1200 Clifton St NW). You may show up at any time during that window, but please note that the optional dance call is at 6:00 pm. At this time, we are not offering a virtual audition, but if you would really like to be part of this production and absolutely cannot make it to the audition, please reach out to us directly at [email protected] (college students especially, if you are not yet home for the summer).

REHEARSALS: Times/dates will vary based on which numbers you are selected for, but generally 4:00-7:00 pm Monday-Thursday, beginning April 28th. Possibly some Saturdays 10-3. Rehearsal will not be every day and proactively communicated conflicts can be managed with the exception of tech week (May 30-June 4). All rehearsals will be held at Cardozo Education Campus (1200 Clifton St NW).

PERFORMANCES: Friday, June 5th, 7:30 pm, and Saturday, June 6th, 7:30 pm, at Gala Hispanic Theatre

Auditions are open to performers of all backgrounds and experience levels. Theatre 202 typically works with DC residents ages 14-24 but all are welcome to audition if you feel moved to do so. All participants will be paid a $200 stipend upon completion of the performances.

Whether you’re dreaming of a role you’re excited to explore, a story that reflects your community, or a future that feels more just and joyful, this space is for you.

For your audition, please be prepared to do any or all of the following:

-Sing 16-32 bars of a song that best showcases your singing ability. If there is a song you’d like to sing in the cabaret, that should be what you sing for your audition. If you just want to be part of the cabaret but don’t have a specific song in mind, that is fine too. Songs from musicals are encouraged but all genres are welcome, including rap. Please be prepared to sing with a backing track. Musical instruments are also welcome if you want to provide your own accompaniment (we can provide a piano).

-Participate in the group dance call at 6:00 pm.

-Present a piece of spoken word, poetry, or other form of personal artistic expression. Original work is totally acceptable but not required.

We have group numbers and duets to cast in addition to solo pieces, so we are looking for talent in general as well as specific number proposals.

If you are interested in participating in this special show, please sign up here: www.bit.ly/t202cabaret . We look forward to seeing you at auditions on April 21st! DM us .202 on Instagram or email [email protected] with any questions.

We’re so grateful for the incredible interest in our upcoming production of Pippin.

After careful reflection, Theatre 202 will not be moving forward with Pippin this spring. As a growing company, we were ultimately unable to secure the staffing support needed to responsibly produce a show of this scale. This decision was not made lightly and comes from a place of care for the artists involved and our commitment to doing this work with integrity.

While this project is paused, we are actively pivoting to another spring project that we’re excited to share soon. We are also still committed to bringing Pippin to life next season, when we can give it the full support it deserves.

Thank you to everyone who shared interest, reels, and resumes. We hope to work with many of you very soon. Stay tuned for what’s next.

As we near the final hours of 2025, we want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to all who supported us financially this year, especially those who came through on ! We surpassed our goal of $5,000 and are working on raising the additional funds needed for youth stipends for our upcoming production of Pippin. Beyond GivingTuesday, we also received donations from over 200 different people this year, including a very large gift from an anonymous philanthropist and a significant grant from a local foundation (more on that news soon!). Every dollar, like, post, and share helps! Thank you to our Theatre 202 village for showing up for our young people!!! 🙏🏽

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Teens and young adults with strong musical theatre experience (not a beginner show). This GivingTuesday, help young artists shine.

GivingTuesday is a day when communities come together to support work that truly matters. At Theatre 202, that work is creating social justice theatre with, by, and for young people of color in DC. Young performers are paid for their artistry because their voices, creativity, and leadership deserve real investment. No young person ever pays to be part of this community—Theatre 202 invests in them.

This year has brought real challenges for youth across DC—program cuts, political tension, and a noticeable increase in police presence that weighs heavily on many young people. In times like these, having a safe, creative space isn’t just helpful. It’s essential.

Theatre 202 provides that space. Through stipends, they open the door for young people—especially those who are often overlooked—to step into an environment where they can grow, heal, and express themselves through the work they love.

Every GivingTuesday donation supports performer stipends for the 2026 community musical, Pippin. Each contribution removes financial barriers and shows young artists that their talent, dedication, and stories matter.

Thank you for supporting their voices, their creativity, and their future.

We’ve got magic to do…just for you.

This GivingTuesday, help young changemakers shine.

GivingTuesday is a global day of generosity, a moment when communities come together to support the work that matters most. At Theatre 202, that work is creating social justice theatre with, by, and for DC youth and young adults. Our performers earn stipends because youth artistry is powerful, essential, and worthy of real investment.

This year in DC has been especially turbulent, from federal budget cuts to discord in government to an extremely increased presence of law enforcement that many of our young people feel deeply. When the world around them feels unstable, creating safe, creative spaces for youth becomes not just important but urgent.

This is exactly why we create positive pathways for youth through the arts. Our stipends make it possible for us to engage at-risk youth in a consistent, caring community where they can lead, heal, and thrive.

Every GivingTuesday donation will go directly toward youth stipends for our 2026 community musical, Pippin. Your support helps remove financial barriers while honoring the brilliance and commitment our young artists bring to this work.
