I'm scrapping New Year's resolutions this year for an inspirational alternative I call My 20/20 Vision Verse. Check out my handwritten notecard to myself on Isaiah 50:4. Do you have a Bible verse guiding your vision for 2020? Please share.

You may be familiar with Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." It's a go-to Bible verse for many, as it should be.

But HOW does Christ strengthen you? If you are like me, that strength usually comes through, with and from others.

Even though I'm an introvert, this journey called life is intended to be walked with people at our side, making it more interesting, even fun.

I recently heard a message that said most of our breakthroughs don't come in isolation, but in community. That resonated.

It's not just you and God taking on the world. It's you and God working with others to change the world.

Where you are weak, others are strong. Where you are strong, others are weak.

What do you want to accomplish in 2020 that you are inadequate to accomplish alone?

Sometimes when you sacrifice a passion for the right reason it sprouts like a corn stalk in July. You let it go and watch it grow.

This happened to me recently.

To help me launch my new, part-time (side gig) business, Fired UP After 50, I am taking an online course called Marketing Momentum with Kim Avery.

To make room in my schedule, I decided to take a sabbatical from two enjoyable hobbies that were eating up my time: Golf and writing stories on an online blogging platform called Medium.

I average about 3,000 views per month on Medium. During my sabbatical, I figured that number would go down as I pursued something hard I believe I'm supposed to do.

Surprise! My traffic has soared, and by a multiple of seven.

As the chart shows, I have gotten 22,000 views in the last 30 days. Almost all of that was for an article I wrote ONE YEAR AGO that suddenly took off as people shared and shared it and shared it on Facebook.

I could hardly believe it. But the numbers don't lie. Talk about getting fired UP!

Why am I sharing this with you? To brag about my recent success?

No. I want this little story to encourage you to pursue that difficult thing you are supposed to do, perhaps in the new year, even if it means temporarily sacrificing something you love.

That seed you planted some time ago might suddenly grow into a seven-fold blessing that seems too good and too easy to be true.

HOW WORRIED ARE YOU ABOUT AGEISM? According to McKingly Marketing Partners' in-depth report on factors shaping demand for marketing and creative talent, concern about ageism is common. Not surprisingly, Baby Boomers are most concerned that age will impact their job search, To their credit, they are against doing anything about it if it means being dishonest or unethical. They will opt to leave things off their resume that reveal age, such as the name of their university and types of degrees, or omitting the year of graduation. You can read the entire report if you give McKinley your contact info here: https://mckinleymarketingpartners.com/resources/ebooks/2019-marketing-hiring-trends-report/

Have you had a mid-life setback? You're not alone!

It might be the demise of a dream -- your business, your career, your marriage -- filling you with inner pain and head-scratching dismay.

It might be a child's rejection of your faith and values, making you wonder where the heck you went wrong as a parent.

Or maybe it's an illness that leaves you needy and with fewer financial resources than you planned during this decade when you were supposed to finally "get ahead."

It's what author Rita McGrath calls an "inflection point," when everything changes. It's up to you to decide what to do next. Which path will you take? Do you even see the potential paths?

If you are comfortable, share an "inflection point" in your life.
