Fine motor development and the pincer grip is important for these little ones! This Montessori-inspired activity develops concentration, strengthens the muscles of the hands and fingers (for later operating a pencil), and reinforces the left to right order we use to read and write! Set up two matching bowls. Use the left hand to hold left bowl, and the right to squeeze the tongs/tweezers and transfer each bean/bead from left to right. Lots of encouragement, may need to help them hold at first. Have fun ☺️

My Journey in Education

Anja, born in Hong Kong, China to Swedish-American journalists, graduated with her bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. She was the first in her program to organize an internship with a Montessori School, which led her to become a fully certified and working Montessori Lead elementary teacher for five years.

Anja then pursued a calling to teach Title-1 Public School, as she recognized lack of access to high quality education in low income neighborhoods. She taught 2nd grade for two years, serving as her team lead and a district grade level representative for her school.

There, she also created and ran a grant-funded after-school run program called the Mighty Milers. Her program tripled in size by the second year.

Eventually, Anja made her way back to her family in Miami Florida, and discovered a new group of children to work with--Homeschoolers! She currently works part-time overseeing the learning and development of a group of homeschool children in the Miami-Dade area, in addition to private tutoring and consulting.
