September is Su***de Prevention Month. đź–¤

Checking in is community care, and caring for one another is a collective responsibility.

Sometimes showing up starts with a simple question: “How are you, really?” Make space for the answer. Listen without judgment. Remind the people in your community that they don’t have to carry everything alone.

You don’t have to have all the answers to show someone they matter.

If you or someone you know needs immediate emotional support, call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

kinda chic to show up for your people. 🙂‍↕️🖤

Our Student Advocates spent Black August in the Park (Black August In The Park) using their voices, engaging with community, celebrating Black joy, and imagining Black freedom.

Community care looks good on us.

Our Student Advocates are getting ready for Black August in the Park! ✊🏾🖤

This weekend, we kicked off the Advocate year with community, food, fellowship, and preparation for what’s ahead. During our Black August training, Advocates heard from Black August in the Park and InheritaNCe as we explored our history, reflected on our present, and imagined possibilities for Black freedom and our collective future.

Advocates also prepared to step into their roles as community ambassadors, practicing how to welcome attendees, spark meaningful conversations, and help create an experience rooted in Black joy, resistance, connection, and liberation.

From questions like “What does Black joy look like to you?” to “What is your imagination for Black freedom?”, our Advocates are getting ready to put learning into action.

Next stop: Black August in the Park. ✊🏾

Thank you to our Advocates for showing up ready to learn and lead, and thank you to Black August in the Park and InheritaNCe for pouring into our young people and preparing them for the work ahead.

We’ll see you in the park! 🖤

You don’t have to shrink to fit the expectations placed on you. 🖤

This Monday, remember that who you are is bigger than a title, a grade, an accomplishment, or someone else’s idea of who you should be.

Take up space. Trust what you bring to the table. Give yourself permission to grow without questioning your worth along the way.

New week. Same you. More room to become. ✨

What’s one thing you’re choosing to believe about yourself this week? 👇🏾

Leadership starts from within.

Today, Black SEL partnered with the Education Justice Alliance (Education Justice Alliance) & The Gifted Arts (thegiftedarts) for another Resistance Fuels ReSELience™ training, creating space for leaders to reflect, connect, and grow together.

Resistance Fuels ReSELience™ invests in the whole person behind the work because stronger relationships, healthier organizations, and thriving communities begin with leaders who are equipped to lead with purpose.

Thank you to the Education Justice Alliance & The Gifted Arts for your partnership, engagement, and commitment to building communities where people feel seen, affirmed, and empowered.

How are you feeling today?

Every emotion tells a story. The first step toward understanding ourselves is having the language to name what we're feeling.

At Black SEL, we believe every emotion has value. Joy reminds us what fills us. Anger can point to injustice. Fear can reveal what matters. Sadness can remind us what we've lost or what we need.

đź’¬ Check in with yourself.

What emotion best describes how you're feeling today, and what is it trying to tell you?

Let's build a community where every emotion has space to be acknowledged, understood, and supported.

✨ Motivation Monday

Black August reminds us that resistance isn’t just remembered. It’s practiced.

Every day is an opportunity to choose courage over comfort, discipline over distraction, and purpose over passivity.

Whether you’re preparing for a new school year, pursuing a goal, or showing up for your community, remember that the small decisions you make today shape the future you’re helping build.

This Black August, let your actions reflect the legacy you hope to leave.
