It’s always a blessing to have Zora’s Garden in the places Zora Neale Hurston once lived, worked, and left her legacy.📚❤️

Did you know that Zora was in Overtown and Lemon City (Little Haiti) in 1929 to study the Seminoles as an anthropologist? But while there, she encountered so many people from the Carribean Diaspora that she was inspired to take her first international trip…

🌻Let us know in the comments if you know where Zora went. Bonus points if you know why!

Special thanks to for “planting” Zora’s Garden in Miami ☀️

Imagine hitting the road at the top of Spring before the humidity takes its throne in the Big Easy. All to bring Zora and her time in New Orleans to life for 800 students from K-12 across two days. Plus a special public talk in the evening of Day 1 and an educators’ dinner on Day 2…

That’s just what did and just look at the excitement from the lower grades. She can’t wait to do more visits through the Zora’s Garden Book Drive, especially in places connected to Zora’s legacy.

🌱 Community (AND ZORA) has a way of bringing the right stories to our doorstep.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Sharon D. Johnson for officially nominating the as part of the Zora’s Garden Book Drive. We were especially moved by the personal memories and care shared in her nomination, stories of land, legacy, and learning spaces rooted in love across generations.

The Magnolia Tree Earth Center carries a spirit that feels closely aligned with what Zora’s Garden hopes to nurture. Imagination. Memory. Community care. We look forward to learning more and exploring this beautiful space as a potential garden bed.

In the meantime, family, enjoy the Zora connection in the photos and supporting our friends at
