Have you Googled today?

Today's Google Doodle celebrates the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago, the steelpan!

On this day in 1951, the Trinidad All-Steel Pan Percussion Orchestra (TASPO) performed at the Festival of Britain, introducing the steelpan and a new music genre to the world.

Graphic artist Nicholas Huggins acclaimed trumpeter Etienne Charles (composer, arranger, producer) and legendary pan arranger Len “Boogsie” (composer) Sharpe , Mick Seegobin (motion design), , .pg14, Josanne Francis 🇹🇹] and Billy Sheeder recorded and worked on the production for the Doodle.

Yes! Steel On Wheels’ very own Josanne Francis 🇹🇹] is on the recording!

Head to google doodles to find out more about the history of steelpan:

We had an extraordinarily successful virtual workshop this morning with 320 students and staff at Carderock Elementary School!!

Students learned the history of the steelpan while exploring the various instruments in the steel orchestra, and the music the instruments can play!

Check out the storytelling mural done by Elizabeth Caesar, which served as a great backdrop and excellent teaching tool!

This engaging virtual workshop is ahhhmazing in these covidious times!!
