I had a great time playing the classic short form game, Questions Only, with HR star Toni Lamb last week. Check out the session below. Or read through a facilitator's on my website here:

Thanks again Toni Lamb! Oh and I want to add, some people play this game competitively. Like if you make a statement you lose. If Toni and I had been playing that way she would have totally thumped me! I get completely tongue tied at the end when Toni fires a simple question my way fast!

Met with a client this morning. It was for a remote improv for sales training event, a low grade specialty of mine given the 30 years in sales and 20 years in improv. We talked a lot about listening exercises, objection handling exercises. It was fun.
But then my client asked about long term impacts of improv on sales talent. And improv will fully recalibrate a sales professional for the better over a period of months/years. But one session of improv, no matter how dynamic the experience, is not going to have long term impact.
Improv is a practice not a miracle drug.
And that must be true for all professional development workshops. One experience is not enough to create long lasting development.
I'm curious what others have experienced when looking to create long lasting impact from a workshop or series of meetings. How do you get the learning to stick?
Below is a group of professionals learning. Will what they are learning in the photo impact their performance in 6 months?

Here is a blog post on improv's application to listening development. It is often surprising how deceptively hard effective listening is. Improv helps us focus on the skill by keeping its exercises simple. See what you think!

Last week I revived RA’s monthly Learning & Development Improv Happy Hour. I was running these happy hours the first 6 months of RA’s existence and I’m not really sure why I stopped. Anyway, I’m glad I brought it back! The event had great attendance and everyone had lots of fun. Plus we work...

A quick series of photos of executives engaged in a group problem solving game. They weren't doing well! But they were laughing a lot and celebrating each other's contributions, even though those contributions weren't leading to immediate success. Improv teaches teams to adopt a carefree and supportive attitude. If your team supports each other during times of failure, imagine how strong it will be during times of success.

Hey, I thought this was interesting. Preparing for a last minute team building workshop in San Diego, I thought to ask my client about the room that had been secured. The call for this came in with less than a week's notice, so it would have been easy to rush past the room, especially since hotel's are often perfect for improv workshops. But see attached photo, not great for a physically active event. We were able to catch the mistake and get the room rearranged, but this can be a thorny. You can read more about how to prepare your space (and your team) for an improv workshop at work or any interactive workshop here:
