Imposter syndrome? No thank you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are 8 hidden signs of imposter syndrome:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. You struggle to ask for help because you fear looking incompetent
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. You obsessively check things because you're scared of making even small mistakes
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. You procrastinate and avoid tasks that are out of your comfort zone
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. You constantly compare yourself to others
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. You are very sensitive to even constructive criticism
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6. You reject positive feedback and fixate on all the negative aspects
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
7. You set very challenging goals then feel disappointed when you fall short
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
8. You imagine that everyone is more capable than you, so you work extra hard to cover it up.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sound like you? Tell me about it. Let's discover your imposter type and learn how to silence this inner critic.

Don’t confuse overthinking with problem solving. Overthinking sucks you in and removes you from being present. We just go around and around in a loop and never actually solve the problem.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But how can we stop the cycle?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⏰ Try scheduling the worry. Weird, right? But really, by scheduling time to worry we are:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 Recognizing we have worried thoughts
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 Choosing to delay these thoughts for a specific time to address them
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉Reengaging our thoughts in an effective manner once we’ve become more mindful.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌟 This take practice. You are in control. Not your thoughts.

Wellbeing is no longer being ignored, therefore, we can no longer ignore b u r n o u t.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The World Health Organization defines burnout as:
“A syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. It is characterized by three dimensions:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🔺feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion;
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🔺increased mental distance from one’s job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one's job; and
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🔺reduced professional efficacy”.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The reality is, there is no quick fix. However, once we recognize our triggers we can work on positive ways to introduce brain fuel. Let’s focus on turning the stressor around to work towards our advantage.

It’s no surprise that people are reporting higher levels of burnout than ever before.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to a new American Psychological Association report, burnout is at an all-time high across professions.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
▪️ 79% of employees had experienced work-related stress in the month prior to their survey, and nearly 3 in 5 employees reported negative impacts of work-related stress, including lack of interest, motivation, or energy at work.
▪️ 36% reported cognitive weariness,
▪️ 32% reported emotional exhaustion, and
▪️ 44% reported physical fatigue, which is a 38% increase since 2019.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Burnout can be hard to detect. Highly motivated people have challenges recognizing burnout due to having a strong work ethic, making it difficult to acknowledge and address the problem.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If this sounds like you, recognize you’re not alone and you do not need to suffer in silence. Prioritize self-care.

Let’s put it this way, if you’re not making mistakes, you’re not trying. Professional mistakes are common. What is less common is recognizing the mistakes and learning from them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do any of these career mistakes sound familiar? It’s okay if they do. The key here is to experience failure, recognize and overcome the obstacles, and correct your actions. Easier said than done. I get it. Remember, if you’re learning from your mistakes, you’re succeeding.

Seems like an easy question, right? After graduation this question was actually really hard to answer. It’s not because I didn’t have dreams or aspirations; it’s also not because I didn’t know who I was. It’s because I felt I had to choose the BIGGEST and BEST option. PERFECTIONISM AT ITS FINEST. I’m sure when I was asked, my answer was along the lines of “I want to do something I love that helps others and gives me the ability to financially support my family.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yes, I think it’s a pretty solid answer that combines a bunch of my future goals and dreams. It’s an answer that I believed gave a good impression of who I am to anyone who asked. However, if asked now, I know my answer would be different. Why? Well, my priorities have changed AND that’s okay.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What I realized and I hope you do too is that there is not a perfect answer to this question. Everyone dreams about something different, something uniquely meaningful to them, at that moment in life. There shouldn’t be the worry of judgement.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So the next time someone asks you this, answer it wholeheartedly. Right then and there. Don’t over think it. It’s YOUR answer, YOUR motivation, YOUR life.

Well, I guess it’s time to introduce myself! 👋
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 I’m Amanda, an integrative coach based in Washington, DC. I specialize in helping young adults who struggle with anxiety, life skills, low self-esteem, and career development. However, if you’re just like “ what the f*ck am I doing?” Well, I’m your doc, let’s chat.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 This is the closest I’ll get to a headshot. I look at this picture and see happiness, love, and excitement for all possibilities. Yes, my eyes are closed and my little human isn’t looking at the camera, but it’s who I am and the best version of me I wish to share with you all.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 I spent 10+ years working in a number of fields before finding my passion for working with young adults through self-exploration.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 I think mental health and well-being should be on everyone’s agenda.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 I see clients for sessions online, in person, and in groups.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 I love that coaching can help people thrive in their own personal and professional lives. It’s amazing how when things change inside us, they begin to change around us too.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 My approach to coaching is a combination of “let’s throw the spaghetti on the wall and see what sticks” and “measure twice cut once.” These two decision making methods work together pretty seamlessly.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 I am driven by my desire to help my clients and by my own personal curiosities.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 I am on a mission to normalize the conversations about young adulthood struggles and mental health stigma.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 I am honored to support you here. I’m grateful for everyone who shares their thoughts and experiences in the comments- it’s a privilege to see your courage, vulnerability, and realness.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉 I’m always open to hosting talks, writing articles, and running courses so please feel free to connect with me if you think I can help you with anything.
