Last week, Brandeis Bangladeshi Students Association celebrated International Mother Language day where diversified Heller community showcased their own culture and mother language. The event was jointly co sponsored by Graduate Students Association and Heller Academic And Students Servcies. Dean David Weil, former professor Dr. Sajed Kamal and all the professors were present at the event. Founding President Sultan Mohammad Zakaria gave his specch as well at the ceremony.

Dear Friends and Brandeis Dhaka Alumni,

I am writing with great pleasure that our newest colleague at the Heller SID program, Samira Bari Rifat, and her friends, have taken over the charge of Brandeis Bangladesh Students Association! Hearty congratulations, Samira!

I am also writing to share an excellent news that Samira and her friends are celebrating International Mother Language Day 2019 at the Heller School on 19th March 2019. I am so excited to hear all the updates from Samira that the Heller Dean will inaugurate the event and all faculties will join, while Dr Sajed Kamal will give the welcome address.

Friends who are in and around Boston area, please join Samira. Those who are far away, including me, are wishing you all the best, Samira! Please know that our best wishes and regards are with you.

I will now take the opportunity to share some of our old sweet memories from the International Mother Language Day that we collectively and colorfully organized in 2016. I am sure Samira et al. will do it even gorgeous this year. Samira, please keep all of us posted - we want to see a grand event - all the videos, photos and everything.

গত বছর (২০১৬) তে আমরা চমৎকার কিছু আয়োজন করেছিলাম আনত্ররযাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস এবং পহেলা বৈশাখ উপলক্ষে। এখানে সেই আয়োজনের একটি ভিডিও আপলোড করলাম। আমরা চাই প্রতি বছর কিছু না কিছু আয়োজন হোক ব্র্যান্ডাইজে ভার্সিটিতে BSA আয়োজনে। সে অনুষ্গুঠাঙ্গুলি এই পেইজে সংযুক্ত হোক আর বাংলাদেশি কালচার ছড়িয়ে পড়ুক এই আয়োজনের মাধ্যমে।

যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন দেশ থেকে পড়তে আসা ছাত্র-ছাত্রীরা বেশ অর্থ খরচ করে থাকে। বিশ্বমানের শিক্ষা ব্যবস্থার কারণেই সবার আগ্রহ থাকে এখানে পড়ালেখা করার। সম্প্রতি অভিবাসন আইনের কড়াকড়ি যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে পড়তে ইচ্ছুক শিক্ষার্থীদের ওপরও প্রভাব ফেলেছে; আর এতে কিছুটা হলেও প্রভাবিত হতে পারে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের অর্থনীতি। এসব নিয়ে নিউইয়র্ক সিটি ইউনিভার্সিটির অধ্যাপক ড. সরোয়ার জাহাঙ্গীর, বাংলাদেশ থেকে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে স্টুডেন্ট ভিসা নিয়ে পড়তে আসা পিএইচডি’র ছাত্রী কাজী তামান্না কেয়া ও আন্ডারগ্রাজুয়েট লেভেলের শিক্ষার্থী মহসিন মনসুরের সাথে কথা বলেন শাহাদাৎ হোসেন সবুজ।
