What Our JAG Students Learned in September

During the month of September, our JAG students had the opportunity to learn with Ms. Latosia Gibson from 1890 SC State Extension through engaging lessons focused on Financial Literacy and Balancing Life.

💰 Financial Literacy:
Students learned the importance of managing money, making smart financial decisions, budgeting, saving, understanding needs versus wants, and developing healthy financial habits that can support their future goals.

⚖️ Balancing Life: 7 Highly Effective Habits 1st thing 1st
Students explored the importance of balancing school, work, family, relationships, responsibilities, and personal well-being. They discussed time management, setting priorities, making responsible choices, and creating a healthy balance while working toward their goals.

These lessons gave our JAG students practical life skills they can use now and in the future as they prepare for college, careers, and adulthood.

A special thank you to Ms. Latosia Gibson and 1890 SC State Extension for continuing to invest in our students and helping us prepare them to be college, career, and life ready!

Our Colleton County J.A.G. students are excited to invite the community to their Induction & Installation Ceremony.
We are especially honored to welcome Dr. Shantanique Givens-Franklin, DNP, FNP-BC, as our guest speaker for the event. Dr. Givens-Franklin is a proud 2012 graduate of Colleton County High School who is an inspiring example of what is possible when students believe in themselves, pursue their goals, and remain committed to their future. We are excited for her to return to her alma mater and share words of encouragement and inspiration with our J.A.G. students.

Today, we had the honor of celebrating one of our JAG Alumni and former President of the Mrs. Lane JAG Career Association, PFC Hailee Marin, at her Military Graduation! 🇺🇸❤️

It was such a proud moment to see how far she has come. Please join us in congratulating PFC Hailee Marin on this incredible accomplishment!

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Ms. Latosia Gibson from 1890 South Carolina State Extension to spend time with our JAG students and introduce them to the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and Financial Literacy with our JAG 2 students.

Ms. Gibson challenged our students to think about their personal choices, leadership, communication, responsibility, and the habits they can develop now that will help them become successful in both their personal and professional lives.

We've had the pleasure of working alongside Ms. Gibson for several years, and we truly value the partnership we have built. She has continued to pour into our students and provide meaningful opportunities that connect classroom learning to real-life skills.

Thank you, Ms. Gibson, for investing your time, knowledge, and experience into our JAG students. We appreciate you and the continued partnership with 1890 South Carolina State Extension!

Today was an amazing day for our students from Colleton County High School and Thunderbolt Career Technology Center as they attended the JAG SC Leadership Development Conference!

Our students had the opportunity to connect with JAG students from across South Carolina, building new friendships, learning from one another, and strengthening their leadership skills. It was great to see them step outside of their comfort zones, work together, communicate, and learn what it truly means to be a leader.

The students also participated in a variety of outdoor activities that encouraged teamwork, trust, communication, and problem solving. From golfing and co****le to the obstacle course, rope course, and so much more, our students partnered with others, supported their teammates, and had plenty of opportunities to learn while having fun.

Experiences like today remind our students that leadership is not just about being in charge. It is about working with others, listening, encouraging your team, stepping up when needed, and being willing to learn from those around you.

We're so proud of our students for representing Colleton County High School and Thunderbolt Career Technology Center. They showed up ready to learn, ready to connect, and ready to grow. Today was definitely a day filled with leadership, teamwork, new connections, and memories that they will carry with them.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEWLY ELECTED STATE JAG-CAREER ASSOCIATION OFFICERS! 🎉

Today was a BIG day for our Colleton County JAG students!

JAG has three levels of leadership -Local, State, and National, and today, our Colleton County JAG Local Officers had the opportunity to compete on the State Level at the JAG Leadership Development Conference in Columbia, SC.

We are beyond PROUD to announce that all three of our students stepped up to the challenge and were elected to serve as State Officers for the 2026–2027 school year!

Secretary — Kennedy Graham
VP of Leadership Development - Malachi Kirkland
Community Service — A’Maree Minus

All three students represent Colleton County High School and serve under the leadership of Mrs. Alana S. Lane and Mr. Shon Johnson

This accomplishment did not happen overnight! These students put in weeks of preparation, hard work, and dedication to get ready for this opportunity. From preparing and delivering their campaign speeches, creating professional biographies and Sell Sheets, taking professional headshots, submitting transcripts, meeting deadlines, and learning how to present themselves professionally. They showed up and put in the WORK!

More importantly, this experience taught them lessons that go far beyond today’s election. They learned how to manage deadlines, stay focused, communicate effectively, remain professional under pressure, and believe in themselves.

Today, they represented Colleton County JAG with pride, confidence, and professionalism, and we could not be more proud of them!

Please join us in congratulating Kennedy, Malachi, and A’Maree on this incredible accomplishment! We are excited to see what they will accomplish as they represent South Carolina JAG-Career Association throughout the 2026–2027 year!

We had the wonderful opportunity to welcome Full Sail University to our school today. We truly appreciate Mr. Edwin Devils, Representative from Full Sail University, for taking the time to visit with our JAG students from Mrs. Lane’s class and students from Ms. Buckner’s class.

Mr. Devils shared valuable information about the many opportunities available at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida, and gave our students insight into careers and programs they can pursue after high school.

The students also had the chance to participate in a fun, hands-on activity where they worked in groups to create music for famous music artists and TV shows. It was great to see their creativity, teamwork, and excitement throughout the activity!

A special thank you to Mr. Edwin Devilas and Full Sail University for spending time with our students and helping them explore new possibilities for their future. We are always excited to bring real-world opportunities and experiences to our JAG students!
