Our Mt. SAC Vocal Jazz Program is thrilled to welcome the incomparable Jamond McCoy to our team of Jazz Voice instructors (which includes Alex Robinson, Loren Battley, and Bill Cantos, along with Dr. Jeremy Fox leading the program). Seasoned musician, vocal coach, and educator based in Long Beach, California, Jamond specializes in jazz and pop vocals, songwriting, and music theory. He currently serves as the Music Director for the Gospel Voices of Orange County and operates a private artist development and coaching business. Beyond his educational background from California State University-Long Beach, he has working credits across music departments, acting, and writing, notably associated with projects like The Color Purple (2023). In his teaching and direction, McCoy prioritizes “building good humans with music,” intentionally treating rehearsal spaces as places of community support where the person matters more than the performance. In his personal life, he has been married for nine years and is a father to two daughters. He is also a brand ambassador for vocal health tools like VocalMist and the Singing Straw.
