Hi, my name is Anna Shimkus and I'm a first year at Whitman from Sedona AZ. Growing up in AZ the outdoors became my greatest teacher. As a member of the Sustainability Committee I’m looking to give back and protect the planet that has already given so much to me, and to us.

Do you think Whitman is a sustainable school? Think again. In the 2020 AASHE sustainability report, compared to our peer institutions, WE CAME IN LAST PLACE. LAST PLACE! As an institution we are miserably falling behind in our efforts for environmental justice, climate action, waste reduction, renewable energy innovation, etc.

Read our overview of the AASHE STARS report, then read the whole thing. Why aren’t we as institution taking immediate actions against one of the most pressing, intersectional issues of our time?

If you feel so inclined, show your support be reaching out to admin and asking them to enact and fund the solutions listed in this report.

We slacked off a bit yesterday, so today we are doubling up on challenges! CHALLENGE 4: go the whole day without using single-use plastic. CHALLENGE 5: Participate in Sunrise's Phonebank challenge.
